I'm an anime fan. I've seen many an anime. I've loved few and hated many. This one is worth much love. If you are an anime fan and your looking for an anime to parody the best serious animes this is the one your looking for. This is one of the funniest animes i've seen in awhile. If you like excel saga you will love this. To top it off it even has an outtakes extra. Its funny until it ends and then you just wish for a sequal. If you love parody animes you will love this one.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is one of the funniest, craziest and most random animes ever created! If you are familiar with animes like FLCL(and like them) you will love Abenobashi!

Sasshi and Arumi go through a universe of chaos in every single episode.
almost every new episode has a new kind of style to the art and story, but still it is not confusing in any way.
The devolopment in the characters' relationship and what they learn about their grandparents' past, little by little makes all the crazy stuff make sense, and if you enjoy a crazy, messed up humor, but still want an anime with a storyline and plot this Abenobashi is truly the best!
Have fun watching!

  Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi

I watched the series from Netflix and knew that I wanted a copy of my own. It is sort of an anime version of REBOOT in that each episode plays off of anime genres rather than just PC games. ]The fact that many anime stories are based on PC games helps.] I watched the English language version where the two kids have Texan accents which is enjoyable. As the series progresses through the various pastiches, the characters develop depth as they continually seek to return to the "real world". Psychological motives for not returning to the real world are examined. Family relationships are plumbed. Moral societal guidelines are given. The two protagonists [the girl being more mature] travel through time as well as space. Lessons are learned, but not in the preachy manner of the American Saturday morning animation, as the characters careen through one entertaining adventure to another. Also unlike the TV cartoons of my youth, the children actually mature and grow in understanding in their relationship to each other and the world until they accept their lives in the "real world". The animation and color pallet are also excellent. These series is an altogether enjoyable experience - highly recommended for 12 and up.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is fun, different.
Review created: 05/01/09

As someone who enjoys different anime from the norm, this anime fit well into my collection. This series is a fun, frivolous frolic into the absured, but not nearly as goofy as something like Bo-Bo-BoBo-Bo-Bo (yea I know, the Bo's aren't right), but moves around like FLCL (but not quite as strange). If you're a fan of mecha only, you will not like this. If you like comedy, slapstick, shounen, with a touch of Shinto, you'll enjoy this anime. The animation is colorful and well drawn, with some exaggerations in facial expressions/actions to emphasize emotion. The voice over work is good, not perfect, but entertaining. The two main characters speak with pronounced southern "Texas" accents, which is a little odd at first. I've never experienced this in an anime and it adds to the curiosity that this anime provides. As for content, this one is not for the kiddies! There is a ton of "fan service" and nudity and some moderate profanity language (one scene drops the F-Bomb more than Tony Montana and is almost out of place). As for being funny, this anime has it's moments, but I found myself being more entertained that amused. This was not a bad thing for me as I watched, but if you're thinking that this is a laugh a minute comedy, to me it was not. Overall, this anime is actually good - to average + and worth a watch.
