Magellan Triton 300 Handheld GPS Receiver

full of problems,piece of junk don' be tempted to buy this - the seller was ok but the product is junk, the support tried hard but could not help me - I had to pay shipping for them to fix it, but when I got it back it still had problems downloading maps

The unit was easy to set up and accessed assorted information without problems. The only discouraging point was the lack of topo information. This can be corrected with the purchase of the National Geographic topo series program for about $79. Also, Mac users will not have the data access as a PC user. All things considered this is a great unit for a great price. I would recommend this unit to anyone.

I bought this to replace a Garmin Rino 110 so I had some experience with GPS units. It locks onto satellites very quickly and does not loose contact even in dense woods. If only the unit would show the distance to the destination in feet when you are less than 0.1 mile away the unit would be great and I’d give it a rating of five. I like the ability to store the data on a computer, nice touch. I found it easy to use and it gives good battery life but like most things it is always best to carry spare batteries.

I'll be honest, this is the VERY FIRST gps I ever bought. So far, my only complaint is the program that came with it. It seems to freeze my computer once in a while, but the Triton 300 has been excellent so far. Used this all over NH and CT, logged in about 250 hours so far on this GPS, without any problems. Standard battery life runs me about 8 or 9 hours, but when operated with Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries (silver batteries), I get more than 14 hours with. It seems the other reviews here just expect to turn the equipment on and go. The controls on this require some study, but once you know where everything is, I thumb right to exactly where I want to be, and the Geocaching mode works excellent. Perhaps the other reviews have used MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE equipment, so this doesn't fall into that catergory. I'm very happy with this as a first time user. The color screen, ease of tracking my footsteps and creating trails is wonderful. I always have signal on my 3 day outtings and really like the feature that shows my total accent/decent in altitude chart. If you're a first time buyer, who doesn't mind getting to know his equipment prior to heading out into the woods, don't hesitate picking this device up. Keep it with you wherever you go for a week or two to really understand how it works like I did.
