Magellan Triton 2000 Great Product .. Terrible Support

The Magellan Triton Series is an excellent GPS and ahead of its time. It is easy to use but that assumes that you have the Technical Support. Magellan Triton Tech Support is OF NO VALUE and is PRACTICALLY WORTHLESS. They use a call center in India and the people do not speak fluent English and do not understand the unit. You will spend a great deal of time waiting on the phone and the phone service is only 9 X 5 or 45 hours per week. The Jungle Ghost people are great. Located in the USA they offer 12 X 7 X 365 day tech support and are very knowledgeable. They pretest all the units and the product is ready to go when you receive it. You can look them up on the Internet.

      Great GPS for the price

I wanted to try this out since I have really been impressed by the Magellan Explorist 600. However I was looking for a larger screen and the touchscreen capability. I have been reluctant to give the Triton a try because I knew it had some issues early in its release. It seems the units were released right in the middle of a corporate buyout. In the meantime I tried the Garmin 60csx that so many swear by, but I found it hard to read the screen even in its brightest setting. Also the mapping algorithm gave me more errors than I ever thought it would. I finally broke down and got the Triton. After upgrading the firmware to the newest version I have found it to work great. I also updated the maps using an old version of Mapsend Topo which provided more detail than the basemap. It is still missing turn by turn routing but that is promised in a future version of the firmware. Also tritonforum.com has been very informative.
