Magellan Maestro 3140 Car GPS Receiver

I have used the Magellan Maestro 3140 as well as the TomTom One and can definitely tell you that the 3140 is worth the extra money you pay for it.

For beginner's, it has Text-to-Speech which means that it tells you to turn left on Elm Street v/s. saying turn left in 200 yards (TomTom). To TomTom's credit, it makes it almost impossible for you to miss the turn by constantly saying "Turn left in 200 yards", "Turn left in 100 yards", "Turn left NOW"...but I found that a little irritating - instead the 3140 will say turn left on Elm Street and give a chime a few seconds before to let you know that the turn is here.

Second thing is the POI's - it has 4million as opposed to TomTom's 1 million. I know both sound a lot, but the difference is that the 3140 has 4 times as much information on the restaurants, groceries etc. I found Magellan had even the newer places already in their database too. Also, the PlacesOFInterest (POI) dtabase is organized - for example under restaurants, you can then choose cuisine type ie Thai etc.

The final killer is the fact that it has AAA guidebooks incorporated in there - so no more lugging extra books with you.

All in all, this is a great buy.

Packed with features that I was only able to find on much pricier larger GPS units, this Magellan is GREAT! Bluetooth enables me to answer my phone and talk hands free, thats awesome. the Text to speech tells me the road name I need to turn on, rather than just that I have to turn and when. I cant pick a fun accent like I can on some others, but that will do just fine. I enjoy it very much!! I would buy another if I had some reason to, but I dont. AND, its small, so I can shove it in my purse when I am not using it, and when leaving it in the car will end up with a broken window and a missing GPS.

There was nothing wrong with the unit, it was quite nice... light... stylish... BUT, I want to try geocaching and the Magellan won't let you input the coordinates! If it does, it is sooooo well hidden that the user manual didn't even know where it was.

I returned it for a TomTom, but Garmin will let you input your coordinates as well.

The item was packaged in a professional manner and arrived on time. It was received as described in eBay and works great. I like the phone book, phone link and street voice guide futures in the unit. I thought the SD card comes with the unit, but it is said that the SD card don't come with the unit. I received the item with a good battery life and holds charging well.

It gets you there. It is not accurate a little. It does strange things at time. I guess because it needs the update. Hate they will not give you the update if you purchased off of ebay. But I guess the overall unit is ok. Probably should have picked something else, but it get the job done, sometimes!! It like to send you on ackward routes.

I have used Magellan in the past. My husband had a 2000 and I had a 6000. Both of which were stolen from our cars. This is so much better than the 2000 as it gives you the verbal street names instead of just the bell. I like it better than my 6000 as it is easier to navigate. You will not be dissapointed and it hasn't got me lost yet.

I travel a lot for work and so far this GPS is getting me right where I need to go. It doesn't have a lot of advanced features, but it does just what it's supposed to do and I haven't had any issues with it so far. It's been a great help.

I bought the Magellan as a present for my parents. I already have one and I know it works well. The Magellan we got was advertised as NEW IN BOX and we bought it because the seller had a perfect 100% rating. It was missing parts, and had been previously used in Puerto Rico which we could see when we powered it up. We ended up returning it and my parent bought a different brand at a retail store for less money. You need to review your ratings for your vendors.

Love the size and that it talks to you. Quality is great, a two year old could use this it is soeasy to use.

After a review of online comments concerning GPS units and trials of different brands using car rental units, the Magellan Maestro was the logical choice for accurate directions.
It has proved to be so with no problems.
An aftermarket dash mount was purchased for flexibility in use.

Today early in the morning I recieved the GPS. First thing I did was check the unit for any performance defects, it was impecable. I played with every single little feature I could find and everything worked perfect, the unit didn't freeze up and I couldn't find any bugs in it. Cosmeticaly it was great, a few unoticable scratches here and there but that didn't interest me much. What I paid for is a working GPS and that's exactly what I got and at a great price too. I purchased this because my husband already had a Magellan, which I was constantly borrowing. I trusted the Magellan name because of our previous good experience.

I use it for finding my way to destinations that are new to me as I travel through the freeway system & suburbs of Northern Illiniois. I've often 'hopped' off the the backed up freeway & had my Maestro guide me thru the side streets.

Maestro NEVER leads me astray & always gives advance notice for turns.
The Maestro is the ONLY mapping system I use anymore. I trust nothing else & have complete confidence that as long as I have my Maestro, I will arrive where I am going. I am never 'rattled' by traffic anymore bacause the Maestro is like have a friend in the seat next to me offering guidance & suggestions!

I started looking for a gps after using my mom's, that she had also purchased as a refurbished item. I wanted one for when I go to yard sales. I'm not familiar with all the streets of the surrounding cities, especially since there has been so much growth in our area. It's extremely easy to use to find addresses, as well as points of interest such as restaurants. I can temporarily mount it on my windshield & it will walk me thru all the steps. It's easy enough that even my husband can figure it out & find out how to get someplace without stopping to ask for directions. Ha! It also tells you how close you are to your turn while showing street names on the map. The price was in my range as well. The only thing that I've found is that, since it is refurbished, it doesn't have all of the new streets added. It would be nice to have a bit larger screen as my sight isn't what it used to be, but I can still see it well enough to get me there. All in all, it was a great item to purchase.

This GPS has many draws to it with the ability to find gas stations, restraunts and what not. Another Great function is it is bluetooth compatable with your cell phone. You can be hands free and find your destination.

does not load maps, have not even been able to use my GPS because of it. I am in the process of contacting seller to let them know that it does not work.

Excellent product, it loads very well and has many options when it comes to programing for trips. The computer voice is understandable and recognized voice commands in more 3 languages.

Super easy to use and packed with great features. My wife, who is electronically challenged, was using this like a pro with a few minutes of instruction. I bought it to replace a stolen Garmen and I like this one alot better.

I bought this GPS for my husband when he had to make a trip to the Great Lakes. I am the map reader so he needed something to help him get there. We absolutely adore this Magellan 3140!! We named her Maggie. We have missed an exit on the Pike and she has steered us back on track without missing a beat. I saw this for a wonderful price last week and bought 2 - one for each of my daughters and their families for Christmas. I wouldn't want to travel without her (Maggie).
