I have the loved the dependability of the Magellan 330 GPS. It is a very accurate, very dependable unit. I especially like that it operates on just 2 AA batteries.

A superior and simple to use system. I had one before and loved it. Only issue was one day after a long time of no use-I founf the clear plastic lens nearly completely opaque white and unable to look through it!!! No reason for it other than some bizarre chemitry in the plexi. I did buy another just now as its still a top design and fav unit to use for fun. It was reasonably priced and child's play to use. I even had it to 550mph (yes in a jet) and it was a ball to see this little unit keep up. No it was not my navigation for the flight if you actually had to ask lol. I would have actually thought it as a 5 star unit for its price back then but the plexi issue and only 8mb of memory are dampers.

  Map 330 GPS Review
Review created: 03/21/09

This older GPS will be very familiar to current GPS owners. The layout of the keys, screens were familiar and this allowed me to use it right away. I had to get the driver (on the Streets and Destinations CD) and updated the maps. After a couple of attempts got the GPS to accept GSAK waypoints (Baud speeds not set the same). The older units have a little yellowing of the screens, but it is faint. The cable for this GPS is compatible with the current Spor Trak, 315, etc. models. Thanks goodness, because you can't buy the old one anywhere.

If you like playing with older GPS units then this is a great unit. I think a price under $50 is fair. Peoria Bill :>)

  Map 330
Review created: 03/06/09

This was my first GPS - worked great an then was stolen. Picked up a Meridian Gold, but didn't like the larger size - not as "pocketable", so I got another 330 and upgraded the basemap and firmware - now I'm back in business. Yes, there are better gliztier units out there - but for the money, this does everything I need it to.

An oldy but goody - works as good as any other for less
Review created: 12/21/08

Does not have color, street maps are line drawings, sometimes maps are inaccurate -- but can't beat if for the money and altogether is good enough for it's purpose -- to help navigate from one place to another.

  Not bad for the money
Review created: 10/07/08

Not as accurate as most new GPSs but close enough for the money, considering you can pick one up for less than $50, they aren't bad at all.

Take about a minute or 2 to lock to the satellites; if you are traveling too fast tends to skip on track, and not sure if is the map software loaded in mine but doesn't necessarily follow the map accurately.

  Magellan Map 330
Review created: 11/11/07
by:

The Map 330 was my 1st GPS unit, and I loved the simplicity and layout of the buttons. Crazy accurate even out in the pine barrens of NJ, shows dirt roads, streams, old rail lines, what a blast. I was so devasted when it finally died (6 years not bad - had a hard life) I had to have another. I just won one on ebay and cant wait for it to arrive. I looked at other newer, faster ones, but for the $ I just wanted another Map 330. Its hard to understand why Magellan didnt evolve it - the Expolrist units have such micro-sized buttons I needed to use a pen to push them. I was able to use my 330 while moving having it mounted on my dirtbike's handlebars - with gloves on! I may still get a newer one for more serious work (color screens and SD memory chips are calling to me) but I'd always feel comfy having the old 330 as a backup, and as long as I can find cheap ones on ebay, I'll probaly always have one stuffed away.

  Enjoyable Item
Review created: 06/11/07
by:

We bought this item because we have recently started the growing popular sport of Geocaching. We had actually purchased another GPS system, but was told it would not be here until July. Not wanting to wait that long, we went to Ebay and bid for this GPS Receiver and have been thoroughly pleased with it. The whole Ebay experience with the seller was text book. It went was very smooth.

We really enjoy the Magellan GPS and it has helped us find our first 25 caches. Geocaching is a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors with your family. It helped us explore areas in our own backyard that we normally would just drive by before. We are having an incredible time and the GPS system has helped in so many ways.
