Out of all the Madeline stories, I liked this one the best.
A stray dog, who is later named Genevieve, rescues Madeline from the Seine, and becomes her beloved school pet, who is afterwards chased away by the trustees Lord Cuckoo Face, but returns with a surprise, a litter of pups.
This story teaches young children compassion for animals and how little they want from us, and how much they give us in return.
This story is a must have along with Madeline and the Dog Show.
