This years Madden, to me, was just like the others. The Superstar mode was altered a tad but nothing really that significant. The gameplay is still the same in my eyes.

If you buy Madden just to play football, dabble in Superstar mode, and Franchise mode but nothing more, than you won't be amazed.

Graphics are identical, gameplay is identical with a FEW minor tweaks. Returning a punt for more than 2 yards is still impossible and the in-game changes are things that you would have to be a HARD-CORE gamer to care about.

Just another Madden series that is average but it'll still sell boatloads.

  A review on Gameplay

Before starting, I had to adjust the controls because the game only has preconfigured presets for the keyboard/mouse. This is a problem for new comers because everything is sorted out by numbers, not the icons on your controller. I am using a ps2 controller hooked up via a converter that I got at radio shack for $10. Madden 06 was the sameway so I wrote down my configuration to match the ps2. This didnt take me long but I can see someone who didnt write them down might get frustrated.

Gameplay:

I picked San Diego and I made the CPU Chicago. Game loaded up and the graphics is pretty much the same as its predecessors. Just darker. (Thats all I am going to say about that). The very first kick off, I returned it for a TD. I cried because in Madden 06, it WAS IMPOSSIBLE to return a kickoff for a TD. I thought maybe it was too easy but I was to busy crying to change it. The very next defensive series, I intercepted the ball for a TD on the second play. The game is too easy on the default settings. This is no problem because you have AI/Human sliders to tweak.

Running: Running the ball has never felt this good since 2k5. I honestly think they are pretty much the same. The highlight stick has the same function in 2k5. Big guys run over and the small guys juke. If anything, running seemed a bit easy due to all the available options you have: Juke left/right, stiff arm left/right, highlight stick, spin, coverball, sprint. With all these options, the hard part is which one will make your RB look good rather than which one is the most effective.

Overall, I give Running B+/A-.

Passing: Passing is pretty much the same as Madden 06 or 05 minus the vision cone (07 has the Vision cone and there is an option to turn it off). Nothing special here. In 06, the cpu's vision cone was almost non existent because it would flash to the other side of the screen and throw the ball instantaneously w/o giving the human much time to react to the QB's line of sight. The vision cone in 07 was more subtle when the CPU QB switched sides of the field giving you time to react. A much needed tweak.

Overall,I give Passing a solid B.

Defense
Defense is exactly the same as 06. Nothing good/bad about this. My only gripe about this is the individual adjustments. If you chose to do so, you can select any player to go into zone, man, cover, etc. Some of these presets will cause the player to go into zone a mile away from where you want him to go. I.E, I want a player to change from man to man to zone but do so 5yrds to the right. The preset zone will cause him to go 10-15yds to the right. Not a big deal because you can always control him but it is still a gripe.

Overall, I give Defense a B.

New Features:

Highlight stick: Same as 2k5, which I thought was impressive. In madden 06, they had a hit stick which basically meant run over the defensive player even if you RB was 180lbs and the tackler was 280lbs. It aint gonna happen. This seriously hampered the agile RBs. The highlight stick willl automatically adjust the (special move) according to your RB. A big RB will run over the person and the agile will juke around him.

Blocking: Now in madden 07, you can take control of a blocker before the snap (if you chose to). It took me awhile to get used to this new feature. Basically this is how it works: You pick a running play. Before the snap, if you chose to, you can pick any player on the field. Once you have your player, hike the ball and you can control the types of blocks

  **Madden NFL '07 Breakdown Review**
Review created: 04/13/08

People know John Madden in one of three ways. First, there are the die-hard football fans who remember him as "Coach," from his days with the Raiders. Then there are the NFL fans who know John Madden by his commentary for all those years on Monday Night Football, and welcomed "John" into their homes. Then there is the videogame generation, who know him simply as "Madden." John Madden is a veritable institution, quite possibly the most recognized man associated with the greatest of all professional sports. (Please write in to correct me on this.) EA Sports has been churning out their yearly Madden games since 1990, and this latest game, just like all the others, is supposed to be the latest and greatest yet.

Shaun Alexander is on the cover of the game this year, following up on a record-breaking season. Last year was without question the year of the running back, and Madden NFL 07 follows suit, focusing the improvements in the game engine this year on enhancing the running game. The first upgrade is the highlight stick, which replaces the truck stick. The highlight stick enables those game-breaking moves that allow the top backs to evade tackles and break those huge runs. There are forty new broken tackle animations, allowing you to lower your shoulder and smash through a defender, spin your way around them, or perform one of a slew of other tricks to avoid being brought down.

The top running backs in the game have their own unique ways to avoid defenders, and this is taken into account, as the highlight stick enables context-sensitive moves based on your back's size, ability and tendencies. Bruising running backs like the Chiefs' Larry Johnson can knock aside linebackers like bowling pins, while wilier backs like the Steelers' Willie Parker are better at dancing, darting and slipping tackles before breaking big gains. The downside to using these flashy moves to get past defenders is that you increase your chances of fumbling the ball (which I found out all too often while challenging human opponents on Xbox Live).

These new animations are the visual highlight this year, as the character models and fields don't look much better than what we've seen on previous current-generation entries in the Madden series. This is a sharp-looking game, though, and the series has been for years. The grass in the middle of the field will deform and get muddier and worn as play goes on, for instance, and even on the regular old Xbox, it's hard to find fault with such great-looking character models, excellent use of reflective surfaces and some really well-designed stadiums.
The new gameplay features steal the show here, though, particularly the aforementioned highlight stick and the new lead blocker control. With lead blocking, you can take control of an offensive lineman, tight end or fullback, and lay down the lead block for your running back, clearing a path towards a big gain. Teams (and their corresponding halfbacks) with excellent fullbacks will probably benefit the most from this, like the Chargers and their stud blocker Lorenzo Neal, who runs point for Ladainian Tomlinson, serving as his eyes and leading the charge through the defensive line (no pun intended). The system works well, for the most part, and there's some strategy to deciding what kind of block to utilize based on your situation. You can cut block to take someone's legs out from under them, and you can even intentionally hold the defender.
Overall Rating: A 10 out of 10.

this game is great in every aspect. the game play is awsome, the graphics match everthing execpt a xbox 360, and you dont even need a gaming computer to get the nice graphics. but, i would of only bought this game if i had the xbox 360 controller for my pc, bc it would be just stupid to play with a mouse and keyboard. so make shure you buy one of those!!!

Besides the most advertised changes to the game i.e. lead blocking and defense play books, the game is not much different from Madden 06. Superstar mode has some added features butit is still the same as last years anyway you slice it. The new additions to Franchise mode have impressed me. However there is still room for improvement. Overall the game will entertain you because you like football, do not expect much more.

  Another Great Madden Year

This game will satisfy the average sports gamer; for Madden is the best football simulation game on the market.

The superstar mode adds realism, although some options could be edited. The franchise has a few changes. The online mode compares very successfully to the actual game. Some view options cannot be changed for the quarterback. The commentary is satisfying, and the replays are well-timed. The graphics are quite similar to '06, with a few negligible changes.

Overall, the games feels great and I will recommend the Madden football line to anyone over any other football title.

This is the best version of madden ever. I had the same game for the 360 but traded that in to get this game. Three of my friends and I play in a franchise together and it is so much fun. If you like football and madden this would be the game to get.

  A typical Madden game.

The game is about the same as th version before, except that it loads a bit faster. I had no trouble using my Logitech Rumble Pad gamepad on it without the need to configure anything. All in all a good game.

I like the game and found it easy to get on EBay. The process was easy and there were lots of games to choose from. The game was used, but worked like new, and I did not pay a "new" price.

It would be a fun game but playing it on the computer without a controller isnt the most fun, i would only buy if you have a controller that would go with your computer

Brilliant new features (from Madden 2003)
Review created: 02/16/08
by:

I upgraded from Madden 2003. I had read a lot of reviews and was pleasantly suprised when I got this loaded. I love the addition of practice drills to hone your key players talents and abilities. Simulation AI is MUCH improved over Madden 2003, especially when simulating one game at a time. Player graphics are pretty much the same as 2003, which is still good. Stadium graphics are greatly improved. Another group of new features are the offseason owners mode functions, such as purchasing stadium upgrades, signing new head coaches, offensive and defensive coordinators and special teams coaches. You can choose your sponsor from a select few, and earn sponsor bonuses for achieving various win/loss requirements. If you have the finances, you can rebuild your stadium in a new town and start a whole new team. I like it, Especially the practice drills; These are a series of minigames designed to hone your skills as well as some of your key players skills. There's clutch kicking, punting practise, chase and tackle and about five more. Great stuff
