Madame Butterfly (DVD, 2002)

I really enjoyed watching this movie. Even though it's in a different language it still sounded beautiful. The only set back is that I got so into it and on some lines of singing there were no subtitles, and I was like what the heck are they saying? Other than that it was a great movie to add to any collection.

Excellent version of this famous opera. The colorful stage, costumes, and characters well chosen. The opera singers voices had feeling, sentiment and emotion. I loved it! I recommend it!

If you already a fan of Madame Butterfly,I think that you will enjoy this film. If you are new to the world of opera,I can't think of a better introduction. It was artfully shot on location in what is made to appear like a small village in turn-of-the-century Japan. The singing performances are top-notch and well acted while the costumes and the scenery are beautiful. I have seen the opera live on stage and I can't imagine it being done any better than this!I rented the film through NetFlix and liked it so much that I bought a copy so I that can watch and listen to it whenever I like!

I bought this movie to get an understanding of the story Madame Butterfly. I was not aware it was a TOTAL Opera. I like musicals and song where they fit in but not for every spoken word to be in song form. The story, costuming and filming were great, but some what boring to me with all the singing.

There was nothing that I didn't like about it. The story was done well and the singing as was the story done very well. It had good sets and the acting was done in a better light then most of the DVD's done on opera thanks for having it for sale.

The story of Madama Butterfly is heartwretching. This DVD has wonderful characters playing the parts, the scenery is breathless, the music is wonderful.

This is a beautifully made film of the famous Puccini opera "Madame Butterfly" with a wonderful cast, one of the best versions of Butterfly I've heard (and I've listened to a lot!).

Whether or not you are an opera fan, you'll very much enjoy this production of Madame Butterfly. It's not a stage production, but an actual movie with the entire opera and timing of all scenes intact. If you are already a fan of Madame Butterfly, you will LOVE this version. The voices and the orchestration are perfect, full of emotion. Ying Huang is one of the most charming and talented Butterfly's to date and Richard Troxell's handsome Pinkerton makes the love story believable.
