Considering that Robi Draco Rosa is best known for his work with Latin pop heartthrobs Menudo (and later his Menudo bandmate Ricky Martin), one might be excused for expecting MAD LOVE to be cut from the same teen-approved cloth. Anyone who has followed the New York vocalist/producer/guitarist's career closely, however, knows that Rosa has been involved in a dizzyingly diverse array of genres with equal aplomb. All of those styles and more make appearances here, with many tracks blending hard rock, pop, alternative, funk, prog rock, electronica, and world music into a sonic stew that flatly refuses to be easily categorized. Perhaps the only other modern pop artist to combine so many types of music in such an accessible and easy-flowing manner is Sting, a singer often echoed in Rosa's own vocals. The work of an incredibly talented and eclectic musician, MAD LOVE is nothing less than the sound of an unfettered artist pursing his muse.
Editorial Reviews 3 stars out of 5 - MAD LOVE is a bicultural album that reflects both [Rosa's] Puerto Rican heritage and his weakness for arena rock. Rolling Stone (04/15/2004)
