Album Notes The double CD set MAD ABOUT THE BOY brings together a grand total of 59 tracks from the incomparable British cultural icon Noel Coward. This third collection of recordings by British Renaissance man Noel Coward finds the director/writer/actor/vocalist lending his distinctive warble to many self-penned songs, mostly from the mid-to-late 1930s and the early '40s. A number of tunes are drawn from his 1938 play, OPERETTE, most notably the wistful, nostalgic "Where Are the Songs We Sung?" and the spry "Gipsy Melody." Other highlights are the lilting title track (which not-so-subtly refers to his thinly veiled homosexuality) and an elegant take on kindred spirit Cole Porter's "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To," songs that bookend this excellent compilation, which is essential for any true Coward aficionado.
