Wow you have GOT to try this one, very very easy to use

Okay, I saw this at my local Golf outlet, and I thought it had a "ping" look to it. The model I tried out was the 9.5 driver, but I have been told it also comes in 8.5, 10.5 and 11.5 I took out the 9.5 model on the golf course, and I was very very impressed. Its definately one of the easiest drivers I've ever used. The distance is probably not the furthest I've ever hit, but the ease of hitting was what astounded me. Its kind of thick looking, but it is one of the most forgiving drivers I've ever used. I hadn't really tried Macgregor clubs up until stumbling across this one.

I don't know much about the lofts as my understanding is that its a fairly new model, but I tried it in March 2006 and the club was so easy, I found I could almost close my eyes and feel confident of hitting 180-220 yards with no worries at all.

The shaft that it comes with is simply brilliant, it feels so consistent and thorough that it doesn't drag you down, but seems to make your swing feel "kind of stronger", its hard to describe. If you can try this one out before buying, definately do it. The club hits flush shots nearly every 2nd time. Its workability wasn't the best, but its straight accuracy is what is so good about this one. This is definately going to be a great club for average golfers. Hopefully the marketing for it will be well funded, because it would be a great club for a lot of golfers out there who have trouble with their inconsistent swing. I'm not saying its a solution to a bad swing, but if you're learning to drive, you're better off with 4 wheels than 2.

I found it quite easy to hit long straight shots, and it has such a strong feel to it that it promotes a lot of confidence at rest before the shot. When this club comes down in price I am definately going to buy one because on a tight fairway course with water its definately the driver you want.

I hope this review is helpful.

Easy to swing, large sweet spot. No screws to set. Hard to hit off center and best for player who needs extra length with incredible predictability.

As a 30 handicap golfer I always assumed that all golf clubs were relatively the same. So I always used cheap drivers. Not so. After buying the MacTec driver I immediately noticed a difference. I gained 20 yards, straighter shots, and almost eliminated my banana slice. The club is very forgiving on off center shots as advertised. I highly recommend it.

This driver is longer than the ERC I've been playing by a good 10-15 yards. There is a different sound to this club, making it distinctive. Off center hits seem have better results as well, but the sound difference is even more noticable. I purchased the club searching for more length. Not only did I get that but I got some extra forgiveness as well.

A good purchase that I would gladly repeat.

  MacTec Driver 11.5* senior flex

This is categorically the greatest driver I have ever used which includes Taylor Made, Wilson and Callaway. I purchased it based upon a review in a golf magazine where the reviewers said that it could only go long & straight. This is perfect for us medium to high handicappers. I have played six rounds and have not had a bad drive yet; even my miss hits go straight and 200 yards. My wife tried it and liked it so much that I bought a second driver on eBay just for her.

Dislikes? Absolutely none!!

MacTec Driver- Accept it, this thing is for real.

Male, RH, HCP 12, 40 YOA, Previous Driver Talormade Quad, Irons Mizuno MP-32

I was sold on the Callaway FTI until I took a few swings with a NVG2 on a range. I loved the feel and solid sound, but I only got about 7 swings. With only 7 swings I figured I would try to find one with scars on ebay for cheap... to validate my preference shift before dropping big green on a new one. I simply could not find a "demo" so that was my only choice.

Having received and played the club for 4 rounds and range time, I can only say that I am more impressed. I am 20-30 yards longer with this club! As an engineer, I know that some of that yardage must be attributed to a poor fit on my last club (Talormade), even though I had it "fit" :-(. However, this club is every bit as long, if not longer than the FTI, probably about 5-10 yards longer.

At the price you can pick them up for, they are a pure steal. My swing speed is only about 98, but I have an agressive tempo so I still got the "Tour" version and it is fine. The non-tour version is just as good IMO and based on a conversation I had with MacGregor before ordering. I simply needed the 9 degree because I hit the ball high and the non-tours don't have that loft.

I hear a lot of talk about the sound on Ti drivers. I played college baseball, so I am use to aluminum contact sounds. If most Ti drivers give a tin sounding "tink" and the FTI/fusion drivers are a "boink", then the Mac is somewhere in between in tone with a little less volume. I would liken it to a pured line drive from a heavy 33 ounce easton, in baseball terms. Hope that helps some of you.

Interesting Note: Due to my flawed swing, I play all my shots toward the toe. The only good thing is that you can cover the wear pattern on my equipment with a nickel. In short, I hit toward the toe, but very reproducibly. The 360 technology is supposed to give this driver the biggest sweatspot in the game. I should also note, the FTI (my second choice) is designed to also accomodate such imperfect contact. I don't buy into alot of marketing hype, but I am significantly longer with this driver as stated above. I was longer with the FTI too, just not quite as long. Could this really be due to the 360? Perhaps there really is something to both designs.

It just amazes me that this club has not gotten the press it deserves. My Talormade is for sell for sure now... I have not sad anything about control, but lets just say I am very happy with the accuracy. The tour model is a tad heavier, which helps accuracy somewhat. Even the non-tour version is heavier than my previous Talormade, making the increase in distance even more amazing to me.

This club will be in my bag for a long time. Give Mac a shot if you don't need a big label and price tag to feel good about a club.

  Important shaft info before buying!
Review created: 06/01/07

As an aging avid golfer, shaft flex is important to me. So when I saw a senior regular shaft available for these neat drivers, I thought I had to have one. Oops - not good. I love the club, I just can't hit it...make any sense? After purchasing the new Mac, I happen to read a review somewhere about their shafts in these models being too "whippy". Wish I'd have read that BEFORE I bought it. I really do like the look, the sound, and the performance of the club, but I'm gonna have to get it re-shafted because it is indeed very whippy. My advice would be to go a notch or two stiffer than you normally use. Then go out and hit the heck out of the balls with the consistency you should have. Thanks!

MacTec NVG driver better than anticipated
Review created: 09/05/06

The first big difference I noticed about the MacTec NVG driver was the distinctive sound it produces upon impact. It sounds more like an old tin oil can rather than a high-pitched piece of metal being struck by a hammer. Having an 8.5 degree of loft, this club was much lower thatn I was used to. With just a small amount "tweaking" to the position of the ball in my stance, I was booming the ball 10-15 yards longer than my previous driver. This club has definately found a permanent place in my bag! In my opinion, this MacTec driver hits the nail on the head. I have had numerous golfers come over to see my MacTec NVG driver when they hear the characteristic tin oil can sound. If you're in the market for a new, forgiving, oversized club, you would do yourself a great favor to consider the MacTec NVG driver.

This is the longest Driver I have ever used. It has the largest sweet spot of all drivers. Even miss-hit off center drives go a long ways. It's less expensive than the big 5, but I hit it better and farther. GREAT Driver - GREAT ebay purchase.
Thanks, Dale (massage)

I'm low handy chap player and drive over 270 yard.
I tested NVG 9.5 deg with stiff shaft.

This club is excellent for beginner or above HC 18.
It's long drive and easy to make draw ball.

But, if your head speed is very fast, I'm not recommend.
Over all, it's very nice club.

A really great club. My drives are going 20 to 30 yards longer. If I mis-hit the ball, the full titanium face forgives my mis-hit and it still goes straight. Before I bought this club, I had a full set of Taylor Made clubs. Now my driver is the only club that is not a Taylor Made. Its a great club and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their "fairways hit" rating.

  MacGregor Magtec NVG Womens Driver
Review created: 06/03/06

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I bought this club used (but with a 99.9% condition - it was mint) on EBAY for my wife. She has been golfing for several years - but struggles. She gave up on her driver which was from a fairly cheap set years ago and used her 3 wood off the tee. Even at that, she had trouble with distance and height, having disdain for lessons.
This MacGregor Magtec NVG Womens driver has changed everything. She is getting both height and distance and has improved her score and attitude.
Men, if you golf with your significant other and are in similar circumstances, this is a great driver for her. Very light and apparently a nice sweet spot. And the price on ebay was superb!

I'VE HIT A LOT OF DRIVERS INCL CALLAWAY 454, TAYLORMADE, COBRA, TO NAME A FEW, AND THIS ONE IS SOMETHING ELSE!!!! GREAT DISTANCE, EXCELLENT DIRECTION, BUT FAR MORE IMPORTANT TO ME IS THE FEEL. IT'S TOUGH TO DESCRIBE "FEEL" BUT YOU KNOW IT WHEN A CLUB HAS IT, AND THIS DRIVER HAS THE BEST "FEEL" OF ANY DRIVER I HAVE EVER HIT!I'M STILL AMAZED EVERY TIME I HIT IT. NUFF SAID!!!

I switched to this club after too long of a struggle with a better "players" club. The increase from a 400cc to 445cc head made a difference but overall I think that the ease of use with this club really helped. When I hit this club correctly (and it seems to happen more often)my distance is great, the direction is straight and the ball flight is good.

Not much more that I could ask for.

  NVG2 Tour Driver

Love it, this driver (NVG2 Tour) has a lot of pop. It is another quality product from Macgregor... It is underated when compared to the R7 Taylormade but just as long if not longer. Highly recommend the tour model as it is easy to hit as the cup face technology allows the entire face to be a "sweet spot".

I liked everything about this club, looks, feel, length, forgiveness, sound at impact. The only thing I found courious was the tendancy of the club face to be open at impact verses the Taylor Made r7, r580, and Callaway ERC Fusion. That was easy enough to correct for high, long fades or straight drives. I found it difficult to draw though, but my natural tendancy is a fade. Try it I think You'll like it.

Accomplished what I was looking for!
Review created: 06/23/09

I puposely bought this driver for the easability of keeping my swing on plane.
It's dynamic head weight combined with the flex of shaft marries those dimensions I was looking for. The 8.5 degree decreases my usual high loft making my drives, longer and more forgiving, when miss hitting. The hitting surface is more than ample, expanding the sweet spot. Overall, I love it!
