This is either my third of fourth year purchasing the MLB The Show game for my Playstation2.
Like most years I went to the store and purchased it on the day it was released and popped it into the PlayStation the very same day.
For those who are not familiar with MLB The Show it allows you to play an entire season as your team, there are varying game modes you can use including franchise or run it is a manager of the team. I prefer to play each game just as my real Cardinals do and see if I can do better than the team on the field at Busch stadium.
The game is, as I said, fully customizable including crowd noise level, sound effects the PA announcer and broadcaster (including how much the talk during a game). You can play in rookie mode (my personal favorite) all the way up to Hall of Fame and Legends mode for those who are better at video games than I am.
You can make trades, even force trades, work within a team budget or do what many seem to have done in the current economy - budget? what budget?
Views can be customizable as well for when you are batting, pitching, fielding, etc.
The game is full of player stats from last season and with an Internet connection you can get updated rosters throughout the season (I need to update my PlayStation).
The one thing I do not like about the MLB The Show series is that each year I have to spend time resetting my custom levels and preferences to the game. I wish there was a way to save it on a memory card and import it into next seasons game.
This year they have added a few more audio clips to the broadcasters and fixe the mispronunciation of Skip Schumaker's name (drove me nuts the last two years) from the broadcasters - but not from the PA announcer.
The broadcasters are well known: Res Huddler, Dave Campbell and Mat Van Scuresen (sp) and do a good job of play buy play. It does sound as close to calling a real game as a video game can create.
The plus' this year is that the graphics appear better and the parks look even more realistic. The downfalls this year is that there are some new players in the league since 2007 and more often the PA announcer is announcing the next batter by his number or position instead of his name.
This game is well worth the money!
