Early Rule Writing About A Sexual Deviant
Review created: 09/08/06

Before serial killers were even "serial" (generically referred to as "mass murderers"), Jerome Brudos was collection women's shoes and undergarments. And when that wasn't enough, he collected the women themselves!

Ann Rule does a great job of detailing the crimes of sexual deviant Brudos as he escalates from stealing women's undergarments off clotheslines to raping his victims' lifeless bodies repeatedly. His crimes are so demented that even seasoned detectives (and true crime readers!) blanched at the things Brudos had done to his victims and his lack of remorse when confessing to them.

Rule also gives readers a glimpse into the effects of a perverts crimes on his family; specifically, Brudos wife, Darcie. This young lady was tried and convicted by neighbors and others simply on the grounds of "guilt by association." Despite suffering the humiliation of her husband's crimes, coping with the stress of knowing these things occurred within feet of her backdoor where her children played, and figuring out how to start over as a single women with no income and two small children, she was charged as an accessory based on blantant lies of gossipy old bitty who's sister lived next door to the Brudos'. Fortunately, a jury did not convict and Darcie was reunited with her children to begin their lives again.

A very interesting read. A bit tedious in places, but overall an excellent piece of true crime.

  Ann Rule Books
Review created: 10/08/08

I read many true crime writers books, but Ann Rule is by far one of the very best writer's of true crimes. She is one person that will take you into the view and life of the victim, which for the most part is not the norm.
Over the years it's been the Murderer's in the true crime history that is widely reviewed and completely broken down piece by piece, so that we can, the best way that we can, try to understand or atleast attempt to what makes that type of personality tick. So, it always has been the killer that everyone remembers the name of and the where and the how's of...but, Ann Rule, take all of that and pulls it a step further, while she tries to also look into that aspect of the crime, she also brings us closer to the victim and the loved ones left behind in such a way that you feel so close to it as you are reading, that you definately want to follow up on these people and their lives down the road after their terrible ordeals.
She is one of the only Author's that I have ever seen keep a web page just for that type of follow up also, so that we might look into what is happening to the family members now. Also making it possibly for any of us to reach out to the victims families and let them know that they are not alone in there search for understanding as to why these horrible things even so much as exist in our world and must deal with day to day.
She also keeps us informed of the very people that put their lives on the line every single day to try to keep us all safe and the one's who also adjudicate all of the trials also.
In any case, I believe that Ann Rule may very well be the best True Crime writer we have at this date and time. And possibly the best one of the past twenty years also...and she is writting more for us still to read. I believe everyone that enjoys reading and also enjoys true crime books to make sure that they put Ann Rules' books at the top of their list to add to their personal library. This particular book was about Jerry Brudos and the many women he killed called "Lust Killer", but she has a total of 30 books to my knowledge and only one isn't a true crime book, it is her tribute to Seatle and a Coffee Table book, but the other 29 are sensational. The last of her true crime books is called Omnibus, which is three of her books put into one single jacket, all of which, I have already read, so that particular one, I did not buy...but if I ever found out that it had more to it than just those three stories, I would, because she is just that good of a writer. I would not want to miss any of her true crime files writings.

  Ann Rule? As always fantastic
Review created: 12/09/07

First off let me say that Ann Rule is my favorite true crime writer. I don't read anything other than true crime. I have read the Lust Killer by a different writer and it was awfull. Then I found this one by Ann Rule and decided to give it a try and it was great. I love the way this book is writen, it's like I was right there with the killer. This guy was a real nut case and I can't believe he was not caught sooner. It sort of makes you start looking at everyone as a possability. You never know even about your neighbor. You could be living next door to a killer.
