Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (Four Disc Collector's Edition) (PlayStation, 1999)

This game is actually a remake of the best game ever released on sega CD. The now-defunct working designed released this gem in the US years ago and demand for it is still quite high.

The sega cd version was great but with the re-release there are quite a few improvements, for one the graphics are better, there is a whole host of new animated anime-like cutscenes also the whole game has a much brighter crisper look giving it a great feel of high fantasy adventure.

Gameplay is very traditional, like many RPGs the battles are turn based. One thing that this game has going for it that makes it much better than the final fantasy games of the same timeframe is that there are not 'random encounters' to me that always was frusterating but in lunar if there is going to be a fight you'll see the monster comming at you and you'll get a chance to avoid battles that way.

The storyline is a mixture of romance melodrama and adventure. The game is about young Alex's dream of becoming a dragon master and his fight to eventually save his girlfriend, on and he also ends up having to save the world along the way.

The game's storyline and cast of characters are easily loved by many, and the fact that this game includes animated FMV sequences makes the story that much more enjoyable. Games like these are hard to find nowadays, since this game has been out of print for about 7 years. This game might not have the biggest impact in the RPG field like Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, but for hard core fans that like old shool style games with great graphics, excellent voice acting, and stunning visuals, this is got to be the most must-have game of them all, and I don't beleive you'll ever find a game that is half as good as this for the Playstation.

This game is the first of the Lunar series. It kicks off putting you right in the middle of a great in depth heart warming and sometimes frustrating story. You get addicted right out in playing, and wanting to see what comes next, and wanting to see and make your careters succeed and evolve. It came out on the PS1, but for the grafix for it's time it was great. I decided to buy it because I always wanted it but could never find it for sale and it got quite expensive renting it and I had to find out how it was going to end. If you like games like Final Fantasy or Legend Of The Dragoon then this game is right up your alley.

I recently started replaying this game with my older brother but had to buy a new version because my second disk was too scratched up to use.

It's one of both of our favorite RPGs ever. The game is witty and fun with dynamic characters whose personalities really stick with you. The plot is good enough to rival many books we've read, which is high praise for any video game. Anyone who enjoys RPGs should totally give Lunar a shot. It's very memorable and worth every penny!

I bought this game because I own it on Sega CD. Sadly, many years ago, my Sega ceased to function. Overall, this was not a big deal, but that meant I was unable to play this game. I recently stumbled upon a copy here on Ebay, and promptly purchased it. This is the complete version, for the playstation 1 and 2. It includes a wonderful art book and manual, with brief strategies for completing the game. Most inclusions like this aren't all that great, but this hardbound book is absolutely wonderful, and worth the price of entry, along with it's cloth map.

The game is old, but not terribly dated, as it has been updated with graphical enhancements and new sounds, as well as better recorded music.

The story is the main attraction here. You follow a few characters through many trials and watch as they grow in capability and friendship. It is just a wonderful story that everyone can enjoy. You really get to know the characters along the way.

For RPG fans, this was pretty much the first game that had this kind of draw. When this hit the shelves so many years ago, it was the first game America had seen that provided this kind of engrossing plot and character development. To this day, it is one of the best, and can well hold it's own against any of the modern story driven RPGs.

For years it has deserved a place alongside some of the best games ever made.

I will not spoil anything for you. If you are considering this game, buy it. It is worth every penny you have to pay to get it.

I remember first playing this game back in 2000, when my sisters friend decided to bring it over and introduce us.
And almost instantly, I fell in love with the video sequences. They were beautifully animated, they gave the characters life and personality, and of course, they were anime! What else could a girl ask for?
My sister and I went out the next day to buy it. And the day we finally got to really sit down and play it, we both fell in love with not just the video sequences, but the soundtrack, story, and characters!
Sadly, the game is hard to find, considering the fact that Working Designs is sadly out of business now. But if you CAN find it, GET IT. Don't even question the idea, just BUY IT.
In short, the game is a classic.

This game is one of the best storylines i have ever played. The voices are great and the animation is top quality. If you can ever find this game cheap you must play it.

I just LOVE the Lunar series! So I bought them to have them once for all. My favourite RPGs, great and creative story, great animation, energic combats and unpredictable things waits for you to happen! :)

A great game :)

I had played the sequel Eternal Blue Complete, and was thrilled to finally find the original. It is just as great as I expected. Challenging gameplay, as the bosses level up with you! Nice graphics, even by today's standards. Plenty of animated scenes, including one to introduce each storyline character.

Next to the Original Chron Trigger this Game is my all time favorite RPG. I loved every minute of the gametime I spent playing this. I wish that I still had the one I lost in a housefire. I don't really dig on the First person Shooter games that Dominate the gaming world nowadays. They all seem to be pretty much the same thing with a few little differences. Some are Fun but they can't touch THIS GAME. It's my opinion That Chrono Trigger IS the best RPG ever, but this is right there at the top with it and FF7. SO Just letting everyone know if you have a chance to play this and enjoy RPG's. Don't pass it up. I Guarentee You will be very happy after completing it.

Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (Playstation)is a great game. I really enjoyed the updated animation. The only reason it is great is because of the Sega CD version. They changed way to much of the story for my liking. I didn't like that they made Alex a sword magic user like Kyle. He lost all his magic abilities from the original. Not only him, but all the characters did. The magic system in this game wasn't what I wanted. I didn't like it when they did the same thing with Lunar: Eternal Blue, but at least they made it challenging to get upgraded magic. As for the story. I liked how they through more information in about Lunar: EB. I didn't like that they changed Luna's role in the story. I liked the two new evil doing sisters. Over all I give it two thumbs up.

yes, i know. if you haven't played this game the price here on ebay may be intimidating. that is a lot to spend on an old ps1 game that you may have only heard stories about. i'm here to tell you that every cent you spend on getting this game is well worth it. in my oppinion this is the best RPG ever... EVER. the characters ar charming, the story is unrivaled, the art and animation is both top notch with the cut-scenes and nostalgic because of the old school sprites. the voice acting, while a little bit over the top at times, fits well in the english version. the package is remarkable. the game, a soundtrack, a making of disk, a cloth map and a beautiful hard bound book. you'll not find a better rpg out there.

This game is probably the greatest game ever next to FF7. The graphics are phenomenal, considering that this game was made in the 90's. The storyline couldn't have been any better, it was absolutely perfect. The battle sequences are great, not too hard or too easy, but leveling up does require a bit of patience, especially when you get to the higher levels, so if you are a person who just wants to fly through a game, this one might not be right for you.
So basically what I'm trying to say is, if you don't have this game already, then get it! Do it now! Do it now!

I love how old-fashion the game is- y'know, back in the days when all the grafics were just blots of colors on your screen. Even the story is extreeming entertaining. Music is good, some is absolutely beautiful, the other is super 80's. I was not raised in the 80's, so I didn't like it. Only thing I severely dislike, is the looooooooong battles that you HAVE to go through to get your character to level up. It's almost near impossible. If you have a game shark! Perfect! If not... You will spend at least 20 hours just leveling up to be able to slip on through the game. WAAAAAY to long, and boring, but other than that, the story in absolutely great!!! I'm a romantic, so, that adds to my liking. I bought it because I've always loved the medieval, romance, fantasy things, and this game definitely has all of that. All in all, it's a great game! Only buy it if you have the time, otherwise playing it becomes very frustrating.

The only thing I am a bit dissapointed about, is the original case it came in. It was a bit worn down.

Everything is likable about the RPG, characters, video scenes, comedy, music. The only con is that it's taking too long for Lunar3.

One of the best story lines and fun RPGs of its time. Even today the story line still out performs most mainstream RPGs

This game is a total classic. It is a 32 bit remake of the Sega saturn game. One of the first games to have voice acting in it. Voice work is very well done (cheesy by today standards but still great). The main enemy has the best villian laugh ever. Great story, awesome music, the bosses stay difficult because the more powered up Alex gets the higher the boss stats are, so the game will always present you with a challenge to make you work for your win. If you havent played this, DO SO NOW!

Lunar is for the serious rpg gamer. I have played all the Final Fantasy games, Chrono Trigger, and many other rpgs, and I have found that none of them compare. The graphics remind me of Final Fantasy Tactics, but the movie scenes rock, because they don't take a lot of time to load, but are very detailed. The story is one you can get wrapped in, and can believe in that non-believer mode! I recommend that anyone who truly loves getting "emotionally" involved with a game, buys this one and Lunar Silver Star Story, 2!

Cinematics, voice-overs, action, drama, comedy... everything you've always wanted in a role-playing game. I recommend this to any "old-school" player.

I was given this game by a friend and loved it. I'm an anime fanatic so it really spoke to me. When my PS1 died I got angry and accidently destroyed the first disk, so I'd been looking for a replacement for a while.

I play RGPs for the plotlines, so I was not disapointed with this game. The story is great and the battle system is good for a turn-based.
