Album Notes LOVE SONGS is a hits compilation with two new songs: "You Can Make History (Young Again)" and "No Valentines." Personnel includes: Elton John (vocals, piano); James Newton Howard (conductor); George Michael (vocals); The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Producers include: Chris Thomas, Gus Dudgeon, Elton John, George Michael. Digitally remastered by Erick Labson (MCA Music Studios, Hollywood, California). LOVE SONGS is a career-spanning collection that takes great liberty with what it means to be a love song. It includes some of John's biggest, and most obvious, pop standards, such as "Your Song" and "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word," and reels in a few songs that have never appeared on an Elton John album, including his two Grammy-winning songs from THE LION KING and his duet with George Michael on "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me." It also includes several ballads that stretch the boundary of love songdom. "Daniel" is a gorgeous ballad about some sort of loss; it was written as a tribute to a Vietnam vet. "Circle Of Life," one of THE LION KING tracks, is a pop song about growing up that expresses a wondrous love for the mystery of life without being about "love" at all. And the rock ballad "No Valentines," one of two new songs written for this collection with longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin, is a vicious breakup note. They almost all sound like classic love songs, though, because of John's gift for composing ballads and his sweet British tenor. No matter what he's singing about, it's easy to fall in love with the sound. | Find errors in the product description? Submit a catalog update request now. | ||||||||||||||
Reviews Review created: 06/01/07 by: This is a nice compilation, with a good mix of older and newer material. Also, some of the songs collected here (the version of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" with George Michael, and the two songs Elton wrote for the Lion King soundtrack), are not as easily found on other Elton discs. I replay this CD so much that my grandchildren have become his fans. The music is calming and relevent to life's moments. Review ID: 10000000002487586 Was this review helpful? So I found this one on Half.com for a really reasonable price, and she is very satisfied with it. Thanks. Review ID: 10000000001629336 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 03/26/00 by: KMINER -- a member of Epinions Pros: Excellent compilation of his best love songs Cons: None for me - but keep in mind, these are LOVE songs If you enjoy Elton John, this CD is an excellent collection of some of his best loves songs (hence the title, Love Songs). Love Songs is classic Elton John to me. I grew up with parents who enjoyed Elton John and so the music often reminds me of growing up. That alone does not make him once of my favorites, after all, my parents also enjoyed many other artists. Some of the songs I remember best are his love songs, and so I was thrilled when he put out this CD. It was put out in 1996 by MCA Records. There are 15 songs on it, ranging from different time periods in his life, including: Can. Cons: None that I can find but I am a big Elton John Fan. I saw Elton John in concert a few months ago and let me just say he was wonderful. Gone are the flamboyant costumes and wild stage antics. What was left was a truly remarkable a man with a huge stage present, who can not only play a piano, but sing as well. Many time during that concert he made mention of this CD, Love Songs. I have been on search since, until I ran across it in the store just the other day. After picking the CD up and reading the songs that were included I knew I had to have this CD. Elton John was what rock and roll was in my growing up days, many experiences my high school. Cons: Hey, he might go for another 50 years and you'd need another. The remarkable span of Elton John is here among these fine cuts from Daniel to Circle of Life. And it really is remarkable. When you think of all the nobody-to-megastar stories that have led to graveyards from Texas to Paris, you nod to Elton John and to Bob Dylan and to Joni Mitchell and to Bonnie Raitt and all others who have managed to stay the course. So the advice of this review will be short. If you are thinking of choosing a single Elton John work for your collection, stop here and go no farther. This one will suffice. I am trying to remember what I thought of Elton John when he... As I've gotten older, this seems to happen less often than it did when I was in my teens or twenties, but when it happens now there is no less intensity in those feelings. One song that hit me that way a few years back was "Blessed" by Elton John. At the time, I was going through one of my "Rock And Roll" stages and just happened upon the soft-rock station one day when my favorite station... I'm not one of those, who can easily hide the way I feel when I listen to this masterpiece collection of songs on Elton Johns..LOVE SONGS CD. These songs really take me back to those days when responsibility meant getting a date for Friday night and keeping up with the latest fashions. Songs like Blue Eyes and Sorry seems to be the hardest word are just a couple of the great songs you'll hear when you listen to this CD. Remember Daniel who was traveling tonight on a plane and Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me? There all included in this collection....
