This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Australian country singer Sherrie (pronounced "shu-REE") Austin made an auspicious debut with her first CD, WORDS, but the follow-up, LOVE IN THE REAL WORLD, is even better. A talented songwriter as well as a singer, Austin co-wrote 11 out of the 12 tracks here, and many of them are outstanding, with twists and turns of melody and lyrics that are often unexpected, yet gorgeous. Standouts include the title track, which takes a knowing look at a seemingly picture-perfect married couple who realize that "every fairy tale has a monster underneath the bed"; the exhilarating "All the Love a Heart Can Hold"; the slow-burning "Good Love Comin' On"; and "Sarah," a message of hope to a heartbroken friend. LOVE IN THE REAL WORLD also sounds great--Austin's high, powerful voice, somewhat reminiscent of fellow Aussie Olivia Newton-John, has wisely been brought up front, and surrounded with arrangements that never overpower, spiced with just enough fiddle, acoustic guitar, and steel guitar to retain a country feel. LOVE IN THE REAL WORLD's appealing brand of country/pop instrumentation, mature lyrics, and exceptional vocals prove that Austin is definitely one young country talent who deserves both critical acclaim and commercial success.
