Another one of my favorite seasons!

It seems that they always have my favorite episodes on the front cover of the "I Love Lucy" boxed sets. With this collection this is when Lucy and the gang first arrive in California and are getting settled in. In all the episodes with this collection will be in California and rather in the motel room or with Lucy out chasing movie stars. I love the Brown Durby episode that is on the front cover, it is when they first get to Hollywood and Ricky is busy so he gives Lucy some money and tells her to have fun out on the town, while he is working in the studio. Anyway Lucy, Ethel and Fred go to the Brown Durby for dinner and it is a local celebrity brunchin, and guess who sits behind them. The well known William Holden, and Lucy can't help but stairing at him and goucking over him, he decides for once to turn the tables and so he stairs at her and when her food arives she finds it dificult eating because he is stairing at her so hard and so they decide to leave, Fred not wanting to because he hardly got a bite to eat so Lucy tells him to get a doggy bag. As Lucy is leaving she trips the waiter that is bringing William Holden his food and he spills spagetti all over William Holden. Lucy is shoked and just loooked at him as he sits there with his arms crossed with him drinched in spagetti. Ethel drags Lucy out of the Brown Durby with Lucy's mouth wide open. When she gets back to the motel Ricky comes home and tells Lucy that he has a surprise for her and that he met William Holden at the studio and has brought him to the motel to meet Lucy. Lucy says no and begs Ricky not to make her go out and see him, but Ricky insists because he allready brought him there and so she has to come out and at least say hellow. Ricky tries to drag Lucy out of the bedrooom in the motel into the living area but she pulls back. He wants to know what is the matter with her because he thought she would be thrilled. He sais I know that your not shy and she sais thats it I am shy. Anyway She finally agrees that she will meet him but only after fixing her makeup, Ricky agrees and tells her to hurry up. She comes out into the living area with her nose fixed up so he would not recognize her and she is wearing glasses too. William tells her that she looks familiar and have they ever met, Lucy insits that they haven't. Finally when Lucy picks up a cigarette and William lights it for her, her nose catches to a fire and she dips it in her coffee to let it out, and peels the rest off. Ricky and William looking at her the whole time like she is crazy. William then recognizes Lucy from the Brown Durby and says now I know where I seen you, you went to the Brown Durby for lunch, afterwards he winks to her and he said yea Ricky I asked the waiter who that lovely red head was sitting behind me. Lucy then gives William holden a kiss for not saying anything to Ricky about spilling the spagetti on him and then realizing what she did, she yells "I kissed William Holden" and that was the end of the show. This was a great show! Another one of my many favorites from "I Love Lucy" and the clarity of the dvds are great and it comes with many shows and I love the special bonuses too. You get "My Favrite Husband" radio show, starring Lucille and many deleted scenes if you choose that from the main menu but you don't have to, it is just an added bonus.

FOURTH SEASON OF 'I LOVE LUCY"
Review created: 04/23/06
1 of 5 people found this review helpful.

The fourth season of "I Love Lucy" that aired between 1954 and 1955 has 30 memorable episodes:

1. "The Business Manager": Ricky's hired business manager (Charles Lane) for Lucy's household budget only allows her $5/month to spend.

2. "Mertz and Kurtz": When Fred poses as a real-estate tycoon to impress an old vaudeville partner (Charles Winninger, 1884-1969), Lucy helps by posing as the Mertz' maid.

3. "Lucy Cries Wolf": Lucy's multiple phony attempts to see if Ricky will rush home to save her finally backfires.

4. "The Matchmaker": In spite of Ricky's objections, Lucy tries to get two singles to propose to one another.

5. "Mr. and Mrs. TV Show": Ricky's reluctance to do a live morning TV show with Lucy from their apartment backfires for Lucy when she tries to get back at him by sabotaging what she believes is only a dress rehearsal.

6. "Ricky's Movie Offer": When a talent scout comes to audition Ricky at the Ricardo's apartment, Lucy isn't about to give up her big chance.

7. "Ricky's Screen Test": Lucy wants more than a bit part in Ricky's audition for "Don Juan".

8. "Lucy's Mother-in-Law": Lucy tries to impress Ricky's mother on visit from Cuba by having a Spanish-speaking translator on an earphone.

9. "Ethel's Birthday": Fred asks Lucy to pick out Ethel's birthday gift, Ethel's reaction angers Lucy with hilarious results at a play.

10. "Ricky's Contract": Overly anxious to hear back from Hollywood, Fred leaves a phony message that Ricky got the part, but Ethel can't get there fast enough to prevent Lucy from telling Ricky the "good" news.

11. "Getting Ready": When the gang decides to drive to Hollywood, Fred purchases an old used car.

12. "Lucy Learns to Drive": When Ricky gets a new convertible, Lucy insists that she learn to drive; but when Lucy wants to teach Ethel, uh oh!

13. "California, Here We Come": Confusion ensues when Lucy's mother (Kathryn Card, 1892-1964) decides to join the car trip to California, but a better decision is made as Lucy, Ricky, Fred & Ethel head west!

14. "First Stop": With everyone tired of riding in the car, Lucy pulls over to a run-down restaurant/hotel.

15. "Tennessee Bound": When Ricky is arrested for driving too fast, it's up to good ol' Cousin Tennessee Ernie Ford (himself, 1919-1991) to save the day.

16. "Ethel's Home Town": When the gang stops in Albuquerque to visit Ethel's family, Ricky, Lucy & Fred aren't happy when the whole city thinks that Ethel is the star.

17. "L.A. at Last": Lucy, Fred & Ethel eat the famous Brown Derby where Lucy makes a mess of William Holden (himself, 1918-1981) in a nearby booth.

18. "Don Juan and the Starlets": Lucy wants a divorce when it appears that Ricky stayed out all night with five starlets.

19. "Lucy Gets in Pictures": Lucy finally gets her big chance to appear in a film thanks to Ricky, but the headdress is too much to handle.

20. "The Fashion Show": Lucy finds a way to get a free original Don Loper (himself, 1906-1972) dress; but she quickly learns that sunburns and wool don't mix.

21. "The Hedda Hopper Story": Lucy tries to further Ricky's career by trying to impress the rumored hotel guest Hedda Harper (herself, 1885-1966).

22. "Don Juan is Shelved": When Ricky's movie is shelved, Lucy tries too hard to make Ricky popular and get him another role.

23. "Bull Fight Dance": Whe

I love some of the older TV shows mainly because I remember seeing them not long after they came out. This particular season was when they all went to hollywood. Lucy and Ricky were a great team and I will probably get a few more of the different seasons.

  Always Lovin' Lucy
Review created: 02/01/08

I've been a lifelong Lucy fan. Like other fans I was always at the mercy of tv stations and their schedules. Is Lucy airing now? Is it pre-empted again? And don't get me started on all that merciless editing that chips away from the episodes.

On e-bay I found some reasonably priced Lucy DVDs and now I'm hooked on them. No commercials, no editing and some 'fun' extras included. Now I can watch Lucy episodes in their entirety whenever I want.

If you love Lucy, the DVDs are worth it. The episode quality is clear. Many deleted scenes have been restored. The 'extras' such as some of the original commercials and openings are fun to watch too.

  Light comedy is great

I enjoy the I Love Lucy series. The comedy is light, yet funny. It is appropriate for any one to watch, all age groups.
There is always humor involved even if the beginning may seem serious.
I would recommend this series for all.
