Album Notes Personnel: Darin Favorite (guitar); Barry "Byrd" Burton (acoustic guitar); Joe Khoury (electric guitar); Jim "Turbo" Kirby (grand piano, Hammond b-3 organ, keyboards, kurzweil); Bob Babbitt (bass instrument); Craig Krampf (drums, tambourine, percussion); Dave Harrison (drums). Singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Mary Lee Kortes, aka Mary Lee's Corvette, gained considerable attention in 2002 when she released a note-for-note cover album of Bob Dylan's legendary BLOOD ON THE TRACKS. An audacious undertaking if there ever was one, the project became that much more intriguing when it was learned the Dylan himself was a big fan of the recording. 2006's LOVE, LOSS, & LUNACY contains all originals, and while Kortes is certainly no Dylan (who is?), her knack for crisp, twangy guitar-pop melodies coupled with her undeniably lovely voice make songs like "Thunderstruck" and "Wasting the Sun" true delights, and position Kortes as a pleasant cross between, say, Liz Phair and Lucinda Williams. LOVE LOSS & LUNACY is a self-released album, but if you're willing to take the time to locate that intersection, it's worth the trip.
Editorial Reviews Mary Lee's Corvette has created a terrific top-down, tool-around-town-on-a-sunny-day ride... No Depression
