I Love a Cop by Ellen Kirschman (1997, Paperback)

This book was purchased because our son thought we should read it as this is "his chosen profession". He thought it would de-sensitize & bring me comfort. It didn't.
I do think that anyone thinking of this field should read this book along with their family & close associates & have a honest open discussion. The real life stories explain the many pitfalls in this profession once a glamour wears off. Aside from the physical contact in the line of duty there are mental, emotional, spiritual & social dangers as well. Your comrades whom you should trust will compete against you & possibly not support you when you most need it. Substance abuse, which will destroy your life, is more common than you would think.
"To Love a Cop" has fabulous resources therefore there isn't anything I don't like about this book. It is well written, factual & REAL.

I bought this book for my friend's fiance, who's wavering over marrying him, because she didn't think she could handle being a cop's wife. According to her, this book is a great help.

Great book for helping the ones you love understand "the way it is." It also helps you to see why you may feel certain ways, and just never understood why before.

I bought this book because I'm a police officer for 12 years and thought my wife would have a better understanding of me as a cop and not as a father and husband. She enjoyed the book and tells me know certain things from the book of why I do what I do and it's funny because she's right. Fabulous book because it feels like every cop wrote this book about himself but would never say it.
