Movie Description
Based on the series of novels by Christian historical fiction writer Janette Oke, LOVE COMES SOFTLY was first aired on the Hallmark Channel. It tells the story of a young woman named Marty who travels with her new husband Aaron out west to make a home for themselves. Once there, however, Aaron unexpectedly dies, and a heartbroken Marty must now figure out how she will make it through the cruel frontier winter alone. For this reason she accepts the recently widowed Clarke's proposal, as a matter of survival. The two strike a deal, as he needs a mother for his child while she requires a roof over her head, and the pair agree that she will return home in the springtime. But love blooms during the cold months as this uncommon little family discuss important questions about life, love, and God, and struggle to help each other grow in the unfriendly winter environment.

    Introduction

I rented this movie from Netflix out of sheer boredom. After watching if for less then 10 minutes, I found myself weeping silently along with Martie who is recently widowed and out in the Pioneer on her own. What starts out so tragically, you find that the characters in this movie are so genuine that you are literally pulled into their world... feeling their emotions and sharing their lives.

There are many made-for-tv movies that are just plain hoakey. This is not one of them. It is beautifully done and appropriate for all ages.

Infact, I was very genuinely surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie.

So much so, infact, that I am now eagerly, and most impatiently, waiting on the 3 sequels to come in the mail from NetFlix. There is also a fifth movie releasing sometime this year, you you'd better believe I am going to have it as quick as I can.

So as Martie, the main character in this movie, would say "Dangarshnit" if you don't like this yourself.

We rented this DVD so often, we ended up buying our own. We love the family values and just a wonderful story line. We actually bought both sequels, Loves Enduring Promise and Loves Long Journey. If you enjoy prairie and old west love stories you will like these. Marty finds herself a widow and Clark asks her to stay w/ him and take care of his daughter as her mother had died. Marty falls in love w/ both of them and doesn't want to go back east in the spring with the wagon train. I won't tell you anymore. You will love it!Thanks for viewing!

      A Surprisingly GREAT Made-for-TV Movie

If you are like me, you probably have a somewhat discriminate palate when it comes to movies. Afterall, time is precious right? That is why I really do not like made for tv movies. To be honest, alot of them have a great story to tell but they end up having lousy actors or are just plain hoakey.

This is certainly not the case for this movie which premiered on the Hallmark Channel.

Out of sheer boredom, I ordered this movie from Netflix. I had already watched all the good movies in my "Que" and this was last to watch. I popped it into my DVD player and found that I really did not want to watch it, but since I had a recent knee surgery, there was very little I could do to keep myself entertained. So, to break it down, I was desperate for something, anything, to watch.

Let me tell you.... after 10 minutes of watching the movie, I realized that I was actually crying right along with Martie who is the main character and focus of this movie.

You see, Martie and her husband traveled from the East to homestead in the West.
They had been on this journey for months and had finally arrived to the new place where they would homestead and call home. The place where they would eventually begin and raise their family.

But fate had other plans. In a tragic accident, Martie's husband is killed and Martie is left to survive on her own with no skills or knowledge of this new frontier. You see, Martie lived in Boston and was well educated and pampered, and was not at all accustomed to "roughing it".

This story continues on in such as fashion that you cannot help but be drawn into her new life and share the same emotions. When she is upset, you become upset. When she is happy and laughing, you are happy and laughing.

I was also impressed at the remarkable acting skills of Missie who plays the daughter of a man that Martie marries in order to survive. Watch this movie which I highly recommend. It will not only warm your heart, but it will make you crave watching the following four movies in the series. Makes great entertainment for the whole family.

I give it 2 thumbs up!
