Love Actually (DVD, 2004, Widescreen Edition)

I purchased the DVD of this movie because it's a great English Romantic Comedy.
The movie is from the filmakers who brought you Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Bridget Jones's Diary.

It stars many of the U.K.'s finest thespians (Hugh Grant, Bill Nigh, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightly,& Rowan "Mr. Bean" Atkinson and even a few from across the pond (Laura Linney & Billy Bob Thorton.)

The movie follows several peoples lives during the frantic six weeks prior to the Christmas Holidays. Each persons story is different and this movie covers all the bases from Unrequited love, loss of love (death), to rekindled affections and everything in between.

The characters in this story are very different from one another and the differences between them makes for some great comedic opportunities. It's a great look at how the sexes view love and relationships in completely different ways.

Bill Nigh (Davy Jones from Pirates of the Carribbean) is a middle aged, very outspoken, straight shooting, over the hill, washed up, rock star who's glory days are long gone. His characters relationship to his Scottish Manager is a bit unorthodox and very amusing.

This is by far an excellent film but I doubt most men would appreciate it. It's a great Chick Flick and a good feel good holiday movie.

For you guys.....Shannon Elizabeth and Denise Richards have small roles as the token American eye candy.

Before I started watching this movie, I thought it would be kind of dumb. After I finished watching it, it became my favorite. What I like about this movie is that it doesn't have to be Christmas-time to enjoy this movie that takes place on Christmas. Love Acually can be enjoyed throughout the year. Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Liam Neeson, Keira Knightly and Emma Thompson star in this movie that is different than any other romantic comedy. I find this movie to be more realistic than most love stories.

This film is set in London, and I was living in London when it premiered, which may be why I'm a bit partial towards it, but I LOVE it! You really need to watch it a few times, however, to get all the connections and subtle British humor. This really is just a feel good holiday film that you'll enjoy watching with a big cup of hot chocolate. I can watch this movie over and over and never get sick of it!

Love Actually is not full of "special warm fuzzies" nor is it sappy. Rather is about a series of real life situations that are happening during the holiday season. It's funny, interesting and quite entertaining. There are really no boring bits and it keeps your attention. It's also not a film that makes you sorry that you viewed it or keeps up at night for the nightmares it might produce.

It's not for children as there's nudity, foul language and adults situations. It's not extremely naughty, but it's enough not to want to explain what's going on to a child. So keep those under 17 out whilst watching.

This film has all of the top rated British actors and actresses, so it is very well preformed. It's a good digression from the not-so-believable holiday films. It's also not typical of most of the British films that I have been exposed to as it does have some racy themes to it. However, it's far less than most US films that I have been exposed to. The story line is more important than the minor nudity and bad language.

I purchased this film for my Christmas collection. It's not shelved with "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Frosty the Snowman".

“Love Actually” is one of my favorite romantic comedies. It doesn’t cheap out by being overly gooey and takes advantage of its R rating to actually give us some blunt advice about relationships.

With ten interlocking stories, it’s not perfect. It’s about impossible to keep that many stories and characters interesting in 135 minutes. I can think of two of the subplots that could easily have been discarded that would have made for a stronger film. The stories that do work, however, make up for the downtime.

If you are a fan of movies like ‘Shortcuts’, ‘Magnolia’, etc. that weave multiple stories together, you may want to give it a view though it’s a different movie entirely. I would recommend it as something you and your significant other can watch together for an enjoyable evening.

It's a feel good love comedy. I love this movie because there is more than one story in it. I laughed, I cried, I sympathized with the charactors. There is nothing I didn't like about the movie, that's why I bought it!

i saw this movie in 2004 when it came out & absolutely loved it! it's definitely what the critics refer to as a feel-good movie. it full of laughs and poignant moments that are priceless. it is especially good when enjoyed around the christmas holiday since that is when the movie is set. it gives those of us who often fail at love a reason to keep going. highly recommend.

This was a movie DVD purchase. If you want a movie review, then I must tell you that I NEVER buy movies, but this one was so heart: warming, tugging, wrenching,felt and it's funny so I had to have it. This movie is truly a Gem. Also the amazing dislpay of talent of one young girl just blew me away. It had a dream wedding, it has relationships and in the end, it is about love, actually ;).

I was surprised to see in an interview with Hugh Grant about the time "Notting Hill" came out that Richard Curtis is considered sort of a workaday comedy writer in the UK. Curtis is that and more and "Love, Actually" might very well be his masterpiece.

"Love Actually" is a Christmas story for the 21st Century with roots deeply planted in Dickensian sentiment. If Dickens reminded us that "it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas", Curtis' message is "it is good to love someone and be loved, and never better than at Christmas". Curtis' Christmas pudding gives us writers, actors, children, parents, brothers, sisters -- and even the Prime Minister all caught in the act of discovering that statement to be true.

The DVD product itself scores in the extras department with interview material and the music video of "The Trouble with Love" by Kelly Clarkson. I rate "Love, Actually" among my top Christmas movies (along with "It's a Wonderful Life", the Alistair Sim "A Christmas Carol" and "Comfort and Joy") and I am glad to finally own a copy.

I had really been wanting that movie because it is one of my favorite Christmas films. It came really quickly and it is new as stated.

Possibly overly sentimental and definitely wearing it's heart on its sleeve, Love Actually is entertaining if you are in the mood for a warm and fuzzy, movie that is funny and has a gorgeous cast. Bill Nighy is great in the central story of this many faceted film. Hugh Grant, although not necessarily your Prime Minister type is fun and charming (as could be expected.) Kiera Knightly is lovely eye candy and Liam Neeson and Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Colin Firth all look like they are having fun in thier own story lines. The movie has great cameos that move the story along and the film has many for sweet and hopeful moments, this is a holiday film you can watch anytime.

There was not a single scratch on it. It was very reasonably priced. I had wanted the movie for a long time, but had not been able to find it in stores.

After watching a small piece of it on network tv I decided to buy the disk and avoid the commercials and chopping.

I was not dissappointed.

My best measuring stick is my wife who not only did not doze but said at the end that she would like to see it again. THIS IS A RAVE REVIEW.

The ending is the same kind of flip you get at the end of Casablanca when the policeman says "round up the usual suspects" but takes about 10 minutes or more to develop while you grit your teeth and hold on to your chair.

I think you need to watch this movie more than once to really see all the connections in the movie. It can be confusing the first time you watch it. Every time I watch it, though, I love it even more. It's one of those movies that I can watch over and over. It is an awesome movie that is definately one of my favorites!

This movie is joyous. It is an absolute funny and feel good movie that deals with a lot of everyday and not so everyday things. If you enjoyed Four Weddings and a Funeral or Bridget Jones Diary, this is a must. It is jam packed with stars including Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Kera Knightly, and more. Don't rent it, buy it as you are sure to want to watch it more than once.

I like the theme of the movie depicting the universal nature of love. Love Actually is a great collection of senarios tied together brillently. It's a great movie for those who enjoy the warm embrace that geniune love has to offer. (not suitable for children)

I can watch this movie over and over again. It's different than other movies; not the same old story. It is the best romantic comedy ever!

THis is one of my favorite movies. Its funny, its sad, and seems to clarify life on a narrow and menial scale. WOnderful.

Excellent cast, wonderfully awkward adult situations, it just goes to show that Hollywood can come out with a good movie with out violence.

Amazing writer Richard Curtis' first directorial work. It follows numerous people in their search for love. Love for family, friends, siblings, and of course, the romantic kind.

Dudes, this is not just another chick flick, it will inspire and lift you (I know I sound like a chick but I am really a dude, straight one too). Check it out, it's worth it.

and Ladies, if you haven't seen this movie yet, will, you gotta.

This movie has a lot of stories, and could be hard to follow... but it's worth it. Most stories are fairly happy, there are a few bittersweet ones, but overall this is a great, well done movie. Fantastic acting and good stories.
