Industry Reviews "How wonderful! An extraordinary journey of mind, body, and spirit--both for Merlin and for ourselves. This first book of The Lost Years of Merlin trilogy leads all of us to look eagerly for the rest." Catalog - Madeleine L'Engle
"In this brilliant first volume of a trilogy, T. A. Barron has created a major addition to that body of literature, ancient and modern, dealing with the towering figure of Merlin. It is, as well, one of the richest and most significant, illuminating the dark mysteries shrouding the childhood of this greatest of enchanters. Barron combines the wellsprings of mythical imagination with his own deepest artist powers...an intense and profoundly spiritual adventure. Barron has found Merlin's lost years for us, and a great deal more." Catalog - Lloyd Alexander
"This is a good bet for those who enjoy fantasy, mythical quests, and of course, Merlin..." Voya - Kathleen Marszycki (10/19/1996)
"...a thoughtful, suberbly-crafted fantasy masterpiece....reminiscent of Tolkien [and] Susan Cooper's 'The Dark is Rising' series." NAPRA ReView - Anita Holladay
"...a promising first installment of a projected trilogy." Caesar
"The Lost Years Of Merlin" is a gripping fantasy adventure saga of the early years of Merlin, the first of a trilogy. Designed to appeal to young adults, "The Lost Years Of Merlin" also appeals to a wider audience. The references to Welsh and Greek myth are a vivid rediscovery for the both reader and the protagonist. The portrayal of Rhia and Trouble are particularly engrossing. Particularly memorable is when Merlin confronts his father, Standard, in a series of reversals which culminate with Standard not killing Merlin, and Merlin sparing Stangmar's life. The Lost Years Of Merlin is an addictive, enthralling read leaving an impatience for the new two volumes! Lipez
