Lost in Space - Season 1 (DVD, 2004, 8-Disc Set)

As a child, in the early 1970s, I absolutely would not miss TV repeats of two shows: Batman and, especially, Lost In Space. I made believe that I was Will Robinson, exploring strange worlds and encountering fearsome aliens throughout the universe. I even created a very crude life-size Jupiter 2 spaceship in my bedroom. Eventually, however, the local station stopped broadcasting the repeats, leaving me absolutely crushed. Without Lost In Space, life lost just a little of its zest and excitement. I eventually got over my post Lost In Space funk, but I never forgot my beloved show.

Here it is, thirty-some years later, and I was thrilled to see a used copy of the first season on eBay, for a very reasonable price. As soon as I received the set, I plowed right through all of the episodes in a few days. Every single episode stirred fond memories of the innocent, care-free days of childhood. Granted, the special effects tend to be laughably crude, the acting is often hammy, and the scripts are sometimes corny. Somehow, these flaws just add to the charm and whimsy of the show and reinforce the fact that it was made in a simpler time, where good guys were good, bad guys were bad, and stories were still allowed to have an unambiguous, non-ironic moral.

I have since purchased the two other seasons, which are in color, unlike the first season. Although the second and third seasons are packed with entertaining shows, they don't quite rise to the consistently high level of the first season. The last season, in particular, resorts to some pretty goofy and contrived storylines, as if the writers were desperate for fresh ideas. Still, all three seasons are nostalgic and never less than fun. I'm sure that there are many other people out there who have fond memories of Lost In Space. I suggest that you pick up the first season set. It'll definitely leave you smiling.

It was a pleasure to watch a series without the gratuitous violence.The episodes were enjoyable and suspenseful to watch with a great cliff hanger at the end of every episode,making the shows very addictive and difficult turn off, even as an adult.Both my kids just love watching the shows and they get very excited when we sit down to watch another episode.I find that my youngest loves the shows and the "scary parts" who usually gets upset if a commercial comes on tv unexpectedly advertising a violent movie.It is absolutely fun to watch as a family.
As for the downside of lost in space season 1 (which in no way diminishes the overall enjoyment and my high recommendation to purchase this series)The interaction between the members of the Robinson family can at times be alittle corny.There are unexplained holes in the plots that leave you wondering.Every episode is in black and white(which, incidently,my wife and I enjoyed)If you are looking for wholesome, good entertainment for your family with suspense and a touch of humor, then this is the one to buy.

Lost in Space in season one started out what seemed too be a new show with great adventure, action and good overall story and plot lines for the episodes with neat special effects. And it did start that way for season one. What happened in season two will always be a mystery too me. One liner note: famous music composer John Williams was responsible for the sound track music for Lost in Space, some of the famous movies hes done has been JAWS (1975) and SUPERMAN (1978) to name some of his famous works. Also Williams took over as conductor of the Boston Pops sympathy Orchestra after Author Fielder's death for a spell.
Some of seasons ones most memorable episodes were as followed:

1. The Reluctant Stowaway (The start of the Robinson's bad luck with Dr. Smith)
2. Island in the Sky (first encounter with the planet)
3. There Were Giants in the Earth (giant one eyed monster)
4. Invaders From the 5th Dimension (bodiless friends wanting to make Will into a computer)
5. War of the Robots (the robot really becomes a family member)
6. The Space Croppers ( Space werewolf and two FULL MOONS)
7. The Keeper (The only two part episodes of the series)
8. The Oasis ( Dr. Smith made into a giant after eating alien fruit)
9. His Majesty Smith ( Dr. Smith is made a king of an alien race only to find out he ends up as a main dinner coarse instead)
10.The Magic Mirror (heart warming episode for Penny begins too grow up)

Of course there are the rest of season one, but these serve as guide for the the few episodes that had meaning and were exciting as well as tacky!

My nephew has seen a few of these episodes on T.V. and asked "Santa" for the first season on DVD. We enjoyed watching the very first episode together, which showed how Dr. Smith tried to sabotage the Jupiter space craft and ultimately was stranded on the ship. The picture quality and sound was very good, considering the age of the program. I am certain that "Santa" will be asked to leave the other DVD sets under the tree next year.

He has really enjoyed it. He asked for it for Christmas. He has watched nearly all of it, this is a 45 year old man! He remembered watching it as a kid and loved it. I imagine that he will want the next season as a gift next year.

I love the product, all DVDs were in excellent condition. They came quickly and each DVD were separately packaged with 4 episodes. I highly recommend Lost in Space for those who grew up watching the series.

I decided to buy the Lost in Space Season one DVD, because it bring to me the opportunity to see again those TV chapters of sciencie fiction, that I use to enjoy when I was a child. Lost in Space TV series became my favorite TV show. Some years ago, I feel the desire of recall those wonderful days of my chilhood watching my favorites TV series, and started to look for them. What I like most is the quality of the product, the features like hearing it in spanish or english and also to see it again those black and white episodes.After finding this Season one DVD, I finally found the lost chapters, my Lost in Space DVD collection is now complete. Actually, I see one episode each week like those days, but this time with my wife, and my children.

Having grown up with watching this as a kid - I love everything about the show. Specifically its' B-Movie effects and - of course - Angela Cartwright. My son and I plan on watching each and every episode on lazy weekends.

I remember as a little girl watching Lost in Space on TV. It was definitely my favorite show of all time. I love Guy Williams as Prof. John Robinson & adored June Lockhart as Maureen Robinson. Both pioneers with their family: Judy, Penny & Will set out in the future of 1997 for the planet Alpha Centauri in the space ship Jupiter 2. Their adventures begin when Dr. Smith (Jonathan Harris) sabotages their plans and nearly kills them all. The B-9 Robot is also a lovable character in this series of adventures of the the Robinson family. A most enjoyable time and great memories relived again and again. Also purchased are Seasons 2 & 3. Recommended Highly.

The story of a family lost in space but who have an evil self-destructive Dr Smith on board who sabtages their every good work. Filmed back in the early 60's it starts out in black-n-white then goes color but I much prefer the B&W version. I think it ads character.
Also the relationship the robot has with the family is inspiring and his explanations to problems are so futuristic its funny to hear them now 30 years later.

Love old SciFi & remembered being fascinated by Lost in Space as a child. Complete first season was a bargain & DVDs in excellent condition. Saved $30 buying gently used compared to Wal Mart's lowest price for new collection.

I loved watching Lost in Space as a kid. I have season 2 so when I saw season 1, the 8-disc set, I had to have it. Seeing Guy Williams, June Lockhart & the rest of the cast was a great feeling. Absolutely outstanding!!! I grew up in the 60's and this brought back so many wonderful memories of a simpler, much MORAL time! Simple stories with simple life lessons (NO sex drugs and gore.....yippeee).

Just like when I was a kid, I A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y LOVE this 1st Season. Always been an advid fan of Penny Robinson <Angela Cartwright>! Glad they kept the Black & White version the beginning of the season going into the colour later like in the 'Wizard of Oz'.

I saw "lost in space" when I was a kid (and in French). So, it is like coming back to my childhood. Of course, now I realize how bad are the special effects and the impossibilities of such naive stories. Also, Doctor Smith's attitude is sometimes a bit annoying, but I am happy to have the full collection ot this tv serie with me and having them in excellent condition. Do I recommend it? Only if you have a child view of the world. I did not expect great episodes, but it is for me a good item to hold. The dvds are easy to manage and keep me busy for so many hours. Great!
Of course "Twilight zone" is probably more rewarding and original that "lost in space".

loved this show as a child. the first season is just wonderful. the quality of the dvd is excellent. a must have for anyone who has enjoyed this show.

It was something that we grew up with, and they didn't have the first season in the stores anywhere, and when I bought it online, it was cheaper by about 20 dollars. Would recommend to anyone, check on here first, you can find some good deals, better then any store. Out of the 4 or more years we have been on here, have gotten a lot of good deals. It is a good place to find deals at lower then usual prices.
