Lost In Space (DVD, 1998)

This film is definately one of my favorite modern "remake" movies. This version manages to give a great ohmage to the campy-classic Lost in Space TV series, while being truly original on it's own as a modern Sci-Fi film. Starring a great cast: William Hurt (of Dark City), Matt LeBlanc (of TV's Friends), Gary Oldman (of The 5th Element) also featuring Mimi Rogers and Heather Graham (both of Austin Power's fame). This modern remake also features 3 of the original Lost in Space cast members in cameo roles! The intense action and standout special effects is what really makes this one worth checking out. I was pleasantly caught off-guard by the originality of the story's direction; a different twist on the Space Exploration/ Sci-Fi/ Time Travel genre. Of course, the DVD is loaded w/ worthwhile extras. Music Videos, Trailers, Production Notes and Special Effect Featurettes are standard fare. The 2 different Commentary Tracks and Deleted Scenes, in particular, are all excellent and provide lots of insightful background info. The interactive menus and CD ROM extras are all well done and add well to the whole package and overall DVD experience. I bought this movie as I was a Lost in Space fan when it was a series and just wanted to see how they would handle the characters and sci-fi fx. I enjoyed the movie and will keep it in my collection.

i was a fan of the original show so thought this movie would be not that good but i was surprised. it was well worth buying and i would recommend it to everyone.

When the TV series began, I had to watch it along with another new series - "Star Trek". They were really quite different and you watched each for its' own merits. Lost in Space was usually funnier. So when the movie came out - and a few decades had passed and Heather Graham(!!!!) was starring in it - you just had to get it. It was funny and had very familiar characters in it but I was expecting more out of Heather (after Boogie Nights). Fairly well done with an interesting story, it was never meant to be an Academy Award movie, just good wholesome entertainment for the family. This particular issue of "Lost in Space" is from 1998 and is in a North American DVD format. My reviews are written with no knowledge as to who the potential seller may be.

Baught this movie because I love it and have wanted to buy it, rarely do I buy movies new unless it is a must have.

This is a very good adaptation of the original TV series. The writers did a good job on the character development as well as the plot itself. It has a different twist that is enjoyable to watch.

Gary Oldman plays a great Dr. Smith (that has an ironic demise) along with the rest of the cast as the Robinson family. The robot got an upgrade but, happily, the original style found its way onto the screen as well. Keep an eye out for other cameo appearances as well; I think there are three of them.

All-in-all, it’s a very good, entertaining family film. Grab the popcorn and enjoy!

Okay so I grew up on the tv show... and although this film has some corny bits, maybe too many, I liked it, and the message is possitive. Watch it with kids and popcorn... MR

Fun references to the original with the cameo appearances. Story wise there is no comparison to the series. It's adventure and suspense with a little (but not much) comedy.

love sci fi movies and this is excellent iit was in great condition and not a scratch so i would say that this was an excellent purchase

I couldn't bore myself enough..To modern and the same old thing..I couldnt watch but about 25 minutes of the movie...Star Wars?? To much fantasy not wnough realism.

My family enjoyed watching this film. My kids love space traveling and adventures which I enjoy a lot. I'm not a critic so I would say it would be ok to keep it in your collection you would probably undust from time to time. Good quality, special effects, and action....

Funny and crazy. Where are the shows like this now a days? now everything has to be so violent and have realism.

I used to have this on VHS but in cleaning out my house I desided to bin all my tapes (not haveing a VCR anymore I had no need for them) and wrote out a list of all movies I wanted to buy for DVD and this was one of them. Great movie funny and action packed. A must for any Sci-Fi lover's collection.

I just love this movie! It has great special effects, great humour, and my all-time favourite actor, Gary Oldman. I don't buy many dvd's, but I specifically looked for this one, I like it so much. My only regret is that they didn't make a sequel!

I never cared for the show, but the movie is fun to watch ... wish they would have come out with a part two.

It was delivered in a very timely manner & is in excellent condition.

The movie was what I expected. Being a fan of the original TV series, I expected stronger character development. The really isn't any chemistry between the actors, so you don't really care if they stay lost. It really isn't a movie you want to watch again, maybe that's why there are so many used copies for sale!

I rate the movie higher than most because I loved the TV show of the 60s. Even though CG was still a generation behind today, several attempts flat fail to fully work. I understand that the release date impacted the CG. They should have waited, I think the theater time lasted one maybe two weeks. The story line us ok for a TV to movie jump, but the acting uneven, and the time bubble/family love 30% began to drag the movie badly. Those who recall the TV show do not assume small children can view without you - killer space bugs will feed many a child nightmare. Call this movie popcorn - but with just enough throw back to a simpler time I like it - even with the many flaws.

THE DVD IS FANTASTIC. I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I'M A DIE HARD FAN OF LOST IN SPACE. THE OLD CLASSIC SHOWS WERE PRETTY GOOD FOR THERE TIME PERIOD. AND THE MOVIE VERSION WAS FANTASTIC.

I had no probleming dealing with them and the product was in perfect shape. I would buy from them again.

good special effects for the time. story isn't that bad, adn the acting is alright. gary oldman is pretty good. wonder why matt leblanc doesn't get any more work...
