Synopsis
This important book explores the cause and effect of ecological degradation, and how the wisdom of the plant world can teach humanity to reverse it. Stephen Harrod Buhner believes that the profiteering of the Western medical establishment has poisoned the earth with toxins and pesticides that will kill off wildlife, and, if left unabated, could possibly destroy humanity. One contributing factor to this chain of events is modern man's inability to appreciate the lessons of the plant world. Buhner isn't a doomsayer, but in the spirit of Rachel Carson, the author of 1962's SILENT SPRING, he is trying to bring attention to this important and little understood problem. Buhner is an herbalist and author who has meticulously researched his subject and carefully builds his arguments. His stance against the medical community is strongly worded but supported by statistics that take into account the cost of antibiotics versus the inexpensive use of natural, trademark-free, herbal alternatives. Buhner believes that if we could re-learn the lost language of plants, we would perceive these dangers as ecological disasters waiting to happen.
