Synopsis A fantastic tale of adventure by the English novelist. Four Europeans travelling in the Far East find themselves stranded in a lost world when their plane goes off course near Nepal and is forced to land in a mysterious kingdom called Shangri-La. Industry Reviews "[This book] is diversion, all the more charming because it is written by a man who knows how to think, none the less pleasant because it is very slight. It quite definitely establishes Mr. Hilton as a writer to read now and to watch for in the future." Saturday Review - George Dangerfield (10/14/1933)
"There is some humor, but the book is in the main a grave one--saved from the ponderousness which often infects such attempts by the simplicity and grace with which it is written." Yale Review - Helen MacAfee
"It is engagingly written for the most part,it is often effective, but seems to be little more than an intellectual tour de force." Barnet
"Mr. Hilton always writes well and with imagination; his characters are clearly drawn and revealed in constant dramatic movement; his dialogue is excellent. He does, however, having created a situation, rather get out of it than resolve it; and one is not entirely convinced by Conway's final return to action, nor is the rather abrupt ending really satisfactory." Dangerfield
