Lost season 2 continues to compel and challenge viewers
Review created: 08/13/06

In a show which started with a harrowing plane crash, season two continues to awe us with mystery and frustration. Frustration not of discontent but rather edge of your seat viewing. The flashbacks become deeper as each character is reviewed and analyzed. At one point, Locke reflects on how Ernest Hemingway battled himself in comparing his own writing with Dostoyevsky. Sharing his thoughts with Doc, perhaps Locke is looking ever deeper into himself, and maybe the show is taunting us to do the same. As with season one, the acting and production is first rate, and despite what you might hear, the answers are slowly unfolding. It wouldn't be the phenomenon it's become if the answers were all spelled out for us.

  LOST SEASON TWO
Review created: 08/23/06
23 of 31 people found this review helpful.

As the second season of Lost begins, the hatch is opened up, and from that moment on, the viewers are thrown into a tailspin of more mystery, eerie goings on, and everything else that made the first season of Lost so good. While Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly), and Locke (Terry O'Quinn) investigate what's inside the hatch (and even more msytery arises from who and what they find inside), we are introduced to the "tailies"; survivors from the tail of the plane that include tough girl Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez), the spiritual and mysterious Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, better known as the ruthless Simon Adebisi from HBO's Oz), and others, as they come across a ship wrecked Michael (Harold Perrineau), Jin (Daniel Dae Kim), and Sawyer (Josh Holloway). There's so much that happens throughout the second season of Lost that it's mind boggling to keep everything together with the overlapping storylines and more questions being raised than answers, all of which really hurt the first half of the season (not to mention that creator J.J. Abrams left during the season to film Mission: Impossible 3, though he did leave the show in better hands than he did with Alias), but as the second half starts things really pick up. Characters begin being picked off, and ever so slowly secrets are revealed. We learn what happened to Walt (Malcolm David Kelley) leaving Michael with some very hard choices to make, get a better insight into just who the "others" are, and we learn that the island has some connection with the Dharma Corporation. All this leads up to the explosive season finale when the it's learned what caused the plane to crash, and what will happen as Locke challenges Mr. Eko about pushing the button. Like the first season, the finale leaves you wanting so much more, only this time it leaves you with your jaw on the floor. However, while the second season is wonderful television, it is a step down from the groundbreaking first season, and some of the new casting choices (Rodriguez in particular) weren't the best ideas. Despite that though, there's a lot to admire here, and by the time you get to the closing credits, you'll be salivating for more.

I would love to write a review about this product but I haven't received it. You took the product off my purchased list after I paid for it and before I received it. I cannot even tell who I bought it from any more. And after talking to your customer service department, you refused to help me recover the 50 something dollars I spent unless I pay you $25, which is a crime because you listed the item in the first place.

  Lost & Found

Never has a television drama so completely drew me like Lost has. The characters are great, the story keeps you guessing with thoughtful questions, and for the keen observer clues can be found around every corner. How is the latest Lost box set? Just like the show great but something is amiss. As far as the translation from tv to DVD goes dont worry, picture is crisp and sound is deep. The one gripe I have is that out of all the special features found on the discs, there are really no easter eggs about next season. Some fake clips from DHARMA would have been great and really give fans a reason to pick this up for other than brushing up on past episodes or learning about the personal lives of the actors. All in I highly suggest purchasing this set for fans and non-fans alike, you will not be dissapointed!

DVD Extras Make This Purchase Worthwhile
Review created: 09/17/06

7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I bought this DVD because I lost (so to speak :) a couple of episodes on my TiVo and never wanted to watch the rest of the season out-of-order. So I've been waiting in agony to see what has been going on.

This DVD is well worth the price with 8, yes 8, disks and an entire disk of "extras" as well as FIVE episodes with commentaries. I really had to discipline myself to not watch the extras until I had plowed through all 24 episodes. The episodes themselves didn't have any extra minutes padding them, although they had a "closing" music I hadn't heard before because of local talk over the credits. Disk 8 has some nice features, including some interactive "experience" that shows how characters are related; cast members' theories (no, they don't give anything away--as far as I can tell); how episodes are put together; and how "Sawyer" views his fellow travelers.

The DVD extras, and the fun I got from watching the episodes back-to-back without a break made me think I should skip watching Season 3 and wait for the DVD. Nah, I don't think so :D

  Getting Lost again...
Review created: 11/02/07
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Everyone has an opinion of course. Reading the other reviews, it seems that there's some consensus that Season 2 is not quite up to the same standard as Season 1. Personally, I disagree. I love everything about both seasons - I'm hard pressed to find anything more compelling on TV. I think there are three reasons why people may feel a little let down with Season 2...

First, there are several more cast members added to a show that already has an island full. With the addition of survivors from the tail section, it starts to feel a bit crowded with not enough time spent on your favorites. Many people dislike Ana Lucia - the hotheaded ex-cop who tends to shoot first, but I like the characters being rather complex. Yes, she's nasty. Yes, you want her to get her just reward. But you'll have to admit that when she's face to face with an known "other," literally passing her knife back and forth without ever flinching, you have to admire her nerve. An interesting, if unlikable character.

Second, even though there are many things revealed in the show, including what caused the crash, what's in the vault, why there was a plane filled with drugs and priests, what was Kate's real sin, what happened to Walt, and why Jack is no longer married just to name a few, there's a feeling that this rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper! For me personally, I love that. With each new unexplainable twist, I'm pulled in that much further. When the black smoke swirls up to Mr. Eko, and they meet face to face, I'm thinking... "Cool, I wonder how this is going to play out." I can't begin to say that I understand everything, but that's what keeps me coming back.

And finally, perhaps people are a bit let down by Season 2 because nothing ever goes quite the way you think it will, or perhaps would like it to. The characters all have unique personalities - intentionally imperfect and complex. Like the classic soap operas, the writers have pulled you in, tied you to things in a personal way. The dynamics are such that things are always turbulent... there is little time for catching your breath (save for the single episode where Hurley gets to give out food at the end of the show). You toggle from side to side... should Jack and Kate get together, or does she fit better with the bad guy Sawyer. Will Mr. Eko and Locke combine forces to be the powerful jungle-savy team they could be, or will ideology force them to become enemies. Will Michael ever find his son, or could it be to everyone's benefit if he remained lost.

At the end of the day, you will of course have to be your own judge. But for me personally, I find LOST to be a fascinating piece of television. I hope you'll enjoy Season 2 as much as I did. I also think that Season 2 gets better as it goes along.

We just bought this, I admit I am not done with all dvd's BUT..... from where I am so far, IT is just fantastic. I have not watch one single show of this series ON TV, I waited for the dvds on both 1st and second seasons. to be able to watch them in order and not miss anything. and I'm so happy I did. this series is not like anything on TV right now, which is SO darn refreshing in itself. I love all the charthers, the plot twists and I believe anyone who watches it will become a fan instantly. I am not going to give anything away because people take this seriously , they like to watch and find out for themselves. BUT i will say. Its worth eery penny. you will love it.

LOST - Absolutely The Best Thing On TV Nowadays !
Review created: 09/12/06
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Take a couple handfuls of survivors -- some family, mostly strangers -- crash them onto an island with a traumatic plane wreck, and give them little sign of hope, a mystery in the jungle, and no sign of rescue; add a pinch of Gilligan's Island, a smidge of Survivor, a sprinkle of grownup Goonies, a dab of 24, and a generous serving of originality to taste. This is what being LOST is all about.

Each episode adds a building block to the mystery surrounding the survivors. Viewers are slowly introduced to the past of each character with flashbacks to what led them onto the fictitious Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 and eventually, to the island. Slowly, we discover their fate was no accident, and there are connections between the remaining passengers.

The blend of mystery and drama is enthralling and tends to overshadow any violence that occurs along the way. The storyline was strongly built over the first season; love triangles are in place, a pregnant survivor gives birth to the beginning of the first generation of the island, a mysterious hatch is found and opened (though the discovery of what or who is inside will have to wait until season 2); a polar bear is discovered to be living and terrorizing the sunny isle; and finally, the survivors have discovered they are not alone.

The series delivers a range of characters including Dr. Jack, who collected the prescription meds from the luggage, made supply carts out of snack carts, and bandages out of clothing. A married couple, Sun and Jin, only one of whom speaks English, have caught fish for food, assisted in making a boat, and planted a garden from passion fruit seeds. A former Iraqi soldier, Sayid, has attempted to repair a radio signal with some success while Boone, the resident boar-hunter, finds solace in the unknown.

The interlocking puzzle of characters, secrets, and endless discoveries can make for an enticing family drama. Lost could be considered the television version of a board game. There are compelling questions left at the end of each episode, and vast amounts of room for interpretation. Parents may find there is plenty of room to discuss serious issues of death and loss, but the overall mystery and weekly disclosure of "clues" presents an opportunity for light-hearted conversations with teens: What do you think is on the island? How do you think the survivors are connected? And most importantly, after a cliffhanging season finale, what do you think is in the hatch?

Really good but I want more!
Review created: 10/26/06
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I would have to say this show is pretty genius. Not really groundbreaking but genius in that they figured out how to captivate audiences by giving them less information but just enough to know what's out there.

I have heard theories that its a metaphor for HELL, or that there not really alive and there actually dead. Do you notice how nearly ALL of the passengers on a flight that just FELL out of the sky are alive!? So it begs the question that perhaps whatever is in front of us the island is actually like a mini-hell or a unique glimpse into never ending suffering. Although the Buddha said Life is Suffering and all that defined life was suffering, one being attachments. They all seem to hang onto something from their PAST life that they continuously flashback to view.

The second season is much better because you get to know more, but its more of the same intense drama that begs many questions and gets few answers. The third season is even better.

  It's time you found "Lost"...

Without a doubt, the most creative, most intellectually stimulating show on television. In the second season, the writers rise above the flaw that crushed "Twin Peaks" back in the '90s: They actually answered some of their show's major "questions," while introducing new characters, new "questions," and bigger issues. Death is no stranger to these characters -- and the writers know how to play with our expectations. Buy Seasons 1 & 2, and have yourself a marathon.

A must have for any Lost fan
Review created: 09/12/06
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Any Lost fan knows it is great to have the entire season on DVD. I've been waiting since the season ended back in the spring! As I watched the whole season back to back, I caught things I missed the first time, made connections I'd not seen before, etc. So that was great. But in reviewing the item, I'd like to focus on the DVD extras.

Their were several extras on the 7th bonus disk that I liked. The "Fire + Water: Anatomy of an Episode" is a 30 minute featurette which takes you through an episode from conception to filming to post-production. It has interviews with cast and crew, on location footage, and even the revelation of an "Easter Egg" that I had completely missed when the show aired AND when I watched it on DVD. The "Secrets of the Hatch" featurette was also enjoyable. It also includes lots of interviews, shows how the hatch was conceived, designed, built, and how it fits into the story as a whole. My favorite of all the features, though, is definitely "The World According to Sawyer." This is only about a 5 minute segment, but it shows numerous clips of all of Sawyer's nicknames and one-liners. As funny as they are in the show, they are hysterical when strung together. I found myself laughing out loud. The only thing that I did NOT like was the "Lost Connections" feature. The way it is set up, you navigate from one character to another to see how they are all connected to each other. GREAT concept. But I found it difficult to keep track of where you've been, which character connections you've already seen, and which direction to go next. I thought it could have been created so it was easier to follow. But if you have the patience to navigate it, you will learn some new connections you may have missed before (did you catch that Locke inspected Nadia's house - that would be the woman Sayid loved and lost.... I missed that one)

Lost : A Classic In the Making
Review created: 09/10/06
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

After Oceanic Air flight 815 tore apart in mid-air and crashed on a Pacific island, its survivors were forced to find inner strength they never knew they had in order to survive. But they discovered that the island holds many secrets, including a mysterious smoke monster, polar bears, a strange French woman and another group of island residents known as "The Others." The survivors have also found signs of those who came to the island before them, including a 19th century sailing ship called The Black Rock, the remains of an ancient statue and bunkers belonging to the Dharma Initiative, a group of scientific researchers. The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But as they have discovered during their 60-plus days on the island, danger and mystery loom behind every corner, and those they thought could be trusted may turn against them. Even heroes have secrets.

The hit ABC drama series, Lost, was created by JJ Abrams (Alias) and Damon Lindelof. The series airs Wednesday nights at 9pm Eastern/Pacific and 8pm Central and premiered 22 September 2004. Here is your chance to watch the entire second season without having to wait from week to week for the show's signature cliff-hangers to be revealed. The phenomenal popularity of Lost continues into it's second season of mystery and intrigue that seems to be woven from both reality show, "Survivor" and the classic castaway tale of Robinson Crusoe. Lost entwines real and fictional 21st century technology, captivates the viewer with timeless fascination with mystery, and pits human survivors against each other and "the others" in a detailed verisimilitude allowing us to believe in the situation. Robinson Crusoe is a fictional character, like Sherlock Holmes he has crossed over from fiction to fact in the minds of some people. Undoubtedly, the characters of Jack (Matthew Fox) and Kate (Evangeline Lilly) too will become timeless heroes. Other main characters are Locke (Terry O'Quinn), Michael (Harold Perrineau), Walt (Malcolm David Kelley), Jin (Daniel Dae Kim), Sun (Yunjin Kim), Sawyer (Josh Holloway), Charlie (Dominic Monaghan), Hurley (Jorge Garcia), Shannon (Maggie Grace), Sayid (Naveen Andrews), and Claire (Emilie De Ravin)
Season two continues to tease the viewer with clues to unraveling the mysteries of the island while delving deeply into each character's personality.

The much-awaited third season of Lost will air on its Wednesday 9e/8c timeslot starting on October 4. Be prepared, catch up by watching season two now!

  Lost - Season 2 "I Can't Turn It Off!!!"
Review created: 10/06/06
by:
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Fun and enjoyable! I really loved the second season and how the series is continuing to evolve and stay the very definition of the word “cliffhanger.” Each of the 24 episodes are better than the last, and just when you think you have it figured out, the show continues to throw a fastball that leaves you guessing.

The introduction of the survivors that were on the tail section of the plane and were discovered on the other end of the island gives the season some fresh faces for the audience to question. The characters benefit from strong performances from Michelle Rodriguez (who plays the tough as nails cop Ana-Lucia) and Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje).

The more than eight hours of bonus features (located on Disc 7 of the set) include various looks at the making of the series, unaired character flashbacks, deleted scenes, bloopers, and promos. “Fire + Water” is a 30-minute documentary that shows how Lost is created from concept to completion. “Lost on Location” gives an all-access pass to the Lost set, and provides a look at the making of 10 episodes.

The second season of Lost keeps the same pace and mystery that was established when the show debut. At the same time, it continues to build on its story and characters to keep the series interesting for the viewers and attract new audience. I really enjoyed the second season more than the first, and thought the show’s writers did a good job answering just enough questions to keep you guessing at what is happening on the screen. The show also seems to be having a little fun with all the different theories about Lost that have sprung up since its debut.

If you have never seen Lost, I would highly recommend starting with the first season. The show is not the kind of series that allows you to just pick up anywhere and know what is going on. The creators do provide a little “previously on Lost” recap at the start of most episodes, but it is still better to watch it from the beginning.

  Lost - Season Two
Review created: 10/02/06
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Just as the last episode of season one left viewers thirsting for more, the last episode of season two was an equal cliff-hanger.

Oddly, season two never made it clear why Walt was so against the opening of the hatch - although viewers understand that he may have some psychic powers. The opening of the hatch was not, in and of itself, such a bad thing - at least, not through the close of season two. Perhaps season three will reveal something more sinister.

As an avid LOST viewer, I was pleased with the addition of cast to enhance the flavor of experiences from the tail section of the plane. It is also refreshing to know that Alex lives and the hope that the french woman may one day get to meet the daughter that was taken from her so many years ago.

Season two simply has me thirsting for more. I am, as the title implies, "LOST."

My husband and I have enjoyed the first two seasons of Lost together, but I just can’t take it anymore! The plot is great, the writers keep us guessing EVERY week! But from now on I’m just going to wait for the seasonal DVDs to be released… I can’t take the suspense anymore!

Great character exploration. Good story lines. Shocking plot twists! I’ve seen every episode and I’m still LOST as to where they’re going with this one.. great show to start watching, if you haven’t already!

OPPORTUNITY TO GET BACK ON TRACK FOR THIRD LOST SEASON!
Review created: 09/15/06
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I'm a LOST addict. I'll admit it. But it was purely an accident.

I'd heard about the excellence in the show's writing ... all the hype ... blah ... blah ... but you know what? When I tuned in, I was unimpressed.

At the time, there were all these weird "Jurassic Park" shrills coming from the jungle and I thought, "Oh geez? It's Jurassic Park in the middle of nowhere?! Forget it ... I saw the movie."

Then I got to watching it later and I was wrong. In fact, I was wrong about every episode after that too? I've NEVER been able to second guess this show and every Wednesday night, I'm disappointed because LOST isn't a mini-series???

The cast of characters is outstanding and it's true ... the writing IS excellent!

If you want to know why viewers rave with praise for this show, then it's well worth your time and money to buy LOST - THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON. Once you get caught up on what's been taking place ... you'll be less confused but just as mystified as the rest of us.

I must say that I watch a great deal of television and have a lot of shows that I really like a bunch. Lost is my favorite though. Every single episode leaves you wanting more! I love the way the producers give you the storylines of different characters each show. I still don't understand completely what is going on and can't wait for the next season to begin! The characters are all awesome and the cast is great as well. Kate is a total hottie - please don't read this wifey - LOL My wife really likes Sawyer but I guess most women do! Well anyways, I just wanted to share my opinion about this incredible show! - Gene

If you've been watching Season 1 of Lost, you will absolutely love Season 2. Lost can be considered one of the greatest television dramas of its generation because its so unique and very entertaining. So many unforgettable characters, story lines, and adventures. The cliff hangers leave you wanting more and you will want more. I can't stop tuning in to watch this show since I first caught a episode one night. I never regretted it because I knew I was watching a show that would make television history. You will not want to miss Lost, season 2, in my opinion much better than the first season.

  Lost The Complete Second Season

I am a true LOST Series follower. I love action, adventure, mystery, and GOOD acting, and LOST has all this. My favorite character is John, the most mysterios; Sawyer, the most action; and Saheem, which I guess you could call the most adventurous. I trid to keep up with the first series on tv but found it hard to do, so I just waited until the dvd complete first season came out and watched the whole thing at once. I enjoyed this much more.
I couldn't wait until the second season came out on dvd, but when I got it I was a little disappointed. I wasn't disappointed with the story or the acting, but with all the repeat of what had happened before. I think they could have re-capped from season one all at one time, and cut down on the re-cap of each new chapter of season two. I really got quite bored watching some of the same things over & over again.
Anyway, taking out all the re-caps, the second season was just as exciting as the first and I can't wait until the third season dvd comes out! My favorite is --Bad Robot!!

I purchased Season 1 on DVD last year and loved it. This year, there's so much more of the extra stuff that you watch after you've seen all the episodes. If you're into the producers' and directors' commentary, interviews, and personal takes on the cast, the cinematic challenges, and the story in general....then you'll love it.
The binding of the physical case the DVD set comes packaged in unfolds several times until you swear it's 4 feet long.
