Movie Description
Created by successful television producer J.J. Abrams (FELICITY, ALIAS), LOST became one of the most popular and critically acclaimed programs of the 2004-2005 season. Utilizing a ripe premise and well-drawn and acted characters, LOST attracted a huge following and was proclaimed the saving grace of a television year otherwise marred by derivative reality programming. The story concerns the survivors of a terrible plane crash, who find themselves stranded on a tropical island with seemingly little chance of a rescue. Medical doctor Jack takes a position of leadership, helping to rally the survivors and prepare them for a period of difficulty as they learn how to survive on the paradisiacal island. But everything is not as it seems, as the island offers potential danger in the form of a large, mysterious creature, and evidence is found that the plane crash may not have been an accident. As they struggle to survive, each of the characters forms alliances and makes enemies, all while dealing with the unresolved issues of the lives they've left behind. LOST distills the difficulties of society down to their essence, exploring these problems with compelling characters and with a setting that's equal parts paradise and mystery.

    Detailed Description

    Summary
Lost is an American serial drama television series that follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious tropical island, after a commercial passenger jet flying between Sydney, Australia and Los Angeles, United States crashes somewhere in the South Pacific. Each episode typically features a primary storyline on the island as well as a secondary storyline from another point in a character's life. The show was created by Damon Lindelof, J. J. Abrams and Jeffrey Lieber, and is filmed primarily on location in Oahu, Hawaii.[1] The pilot episode was first broadcast on September 22, 2004.[2] Since then, three seasons have aired, with a fourth season currently being aired. The show is produced by ABC Studios, Bad Robot Productions and Grass Skirt Productions and airs on the ABC Network in the United States. Its soundtrack is composed by Michael Giacchino. The current executive producers are Abrams, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender and Carlton Cuse.[3] Because of its large ensemble cast and the cost of filming in Hawaii, the series is one of the most expensive on television.[4] Read more...

Season one of Lost belongs in any argument about the all-time great genre shows. While the mysteries of the island, the numbers, Locke, and more pull in displaced X-Files fans like me, the show is at its best when it focuses on the characters and their back stories before coming to the island. Lost teeters dangerously on the edge of absurd, but somehow manages to keep you bought into a place where polar bears roam and most the castaways keep looking like supermodels (So how does Hurley not lose weight on the island?)

I've seen all the episodes so the value of the DVD comes down to the special features. The seventh disk is a treat, filled with solid documentaries about the creation and production of the show. You'll get to see audition tapes of the cast (and learn that many of the actors were up for other parts or had characters written specifically for them based on the audition). You'll also see how a plane can be purchased, torn apart, shipped over seas, and made into a crash set in a matter of weeks.

This is definitely worth getting for newbies wanting to catch up for season 2 and true believers for the special features disk.

Oh boy the series that has inspired all the new fall shows to go cryptic and spooky is so much fun to watch again on DVD. Gone are the weeks between shows, and the hassle of either TIVOing the show or running home to see it. And seeing the mythology unfold all over again, one is taken with the writing and the direction and the superb casting. And then the DVD extras provide such great context for understanding how the show was created and how the decisions that one enjoys when watching were made. Like seeing "Charlie" audition for "Sawyer", and then hearing how the actor chose for Sawyer got the part because he threw a chair- frustrated that he forgot a line. Fantastic. The texture of the show is only enhanced by the details of the DVD. BUY IT>
