'Lost' was able to accomplish what Twin Peaks could not - constant momentum on a belief that nothing is what it seems. This is readily apparent on this sprawling seven DVD set that lets the viewer fully control TV's most addicting show.
Case design itself is suitable though to take even numbered discs out requires removing an odd-numbered one. DVD presentation is great - the menus are well thought out and the sound and picture are simply phenomenal. Great extras as well with casting tapes (Matthew Fox reading for Sawyer is awesome) as well as the requisite commentaries and 'Making Of' extras. Deleted scenes are somewhat scant and the bloopers are pretty run of the mill but the sheer quantity of stuff to behold makes up for it.
Gripes? Well, no huge ones really stand out. Some episodes lack the dramatic punch of others but that's to be expected. The greatest treasure, in my opinion, is picking out all the red herrings and 'McGuffins' that the creators pack into each episode (and trust me, there's a lot). You really get a feel for how well-written and delibrately paced the series is when watching the DVD's from start to finish. My favories are anything involving John Locke, the one person on the island whose motivations are still abundantly unclear.
If you are a fan of the TV show, this is a must have in your collection. It makes a great gift as well as an introduction to season two which just started. Join the millions of us who get 'Lost' every Wednesday!
