Looney Tunes - Golden Collection: Vol. 3 (DVD, 2005)

What can one say about the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes?? They have been making people laugh for over 70 years.

This four disc set contains 60 cartoons and clocks in at over 440 minutes (7 hours 20 minutes), enough to keep any adult or child busy for awhile. There is an disclaimer on the box that this is intended for the adult collector and may not be suitable for children. I think that most of the adult humor is usually too subtle for the children to understand.

Each cartoon has been digitally remastered and is uncut and uncensored. I praise the Warner Brothers Studios for choosing to release some of the more controversial cartoons and leave them uncut. Unlike Disney has done with some of their releases (With Pecos Bill al scenes of him smoking were omitted, the result of which cut the cartoon in half) Whoopi Goldberg is seen in the beginning of each disc and talks about political correctness and how some of these cartoons definately are NOT. But she says to cut or censor them does not reflect the artists original intentions, nor the feel of society of the time.

Each disc is organized with a central theme. Disc One focuses on Bugs Bunny and contains one of my all time favorite shorts: "Hillbilly Hare". Disc Two lampoons Hollywood and the actors of the time. Disc Three and Four: Features Daffy Duck and the ensemble cast of many.

There are many commentaries and behind the scenes featurettes, as well as a documentary on Chuck Jones. Has English, Spanish, and French sound tracks as well as subtitles.

Wonderful quality set with nice picture and sound. A bonus to my collection.

Being a fan of animation, the Looney Tunes represent the best of a dying age where style, clever dialog and superb quality were the norm.

This third set is as good as the first two and it continues Warner's tradition of presenting award winning shorts in a great package with amazing extras.
