Synopsis
Millions of people know and love "Calvin and Hobbes," the ingenious comic strip about a dangerously imaginative six-year-old boy and his semi-pretend stuffed tiger, but almost no one knows anything about the creator of the strip, Bill Watterson. Since he retired in 1995, the reclusive Watterson has passed up untold riches in merchandising and licensing agreements by refusing to grant permission for any Calvin and Hobbes-related products, other than the books which collect the comics themselves. Using interviews with many of Watterson's friends and family, as well as creative luminaries such as Jonathan Lethem, Dave Barry and Harvey Pekar, Nevin Martell details the life and legacy of this remarkable artist and writer, whose wit, wisdom and rigid principles make him such a rare breed.
