Top Reviews Review created: 08/24/08(updated 08/24/08) by: 52 of 52 people found this review helpful. This is a 2008, Blu-ray disc of the 1961, 8 major actor, 4 Oscar winning re-creation of the WWII Allies' invasion at Normandy Beach. Richard Burton, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, Robert Wagner, John Wayne, Paul Anka & Red Buttons create a stellar epic as Allied soldiers. Obviously, since the acting is not the most spectacular part of this film, the 4 1962 Oscars went to Best Cinematography by Jean Bourgoin; Best Cinematography by Walter Wottitz; Best Sound Effects; & Best Special Effects. Darryl F. Zanuck produced what has become known as one of the finest re-creations of a WWII battle, if not classic. Owning it on DVD & Blue-ray seems nearly essential since this film is known to be a great achievement in visual & sound effects. It's impossible to view it on television through cable or satellite & get the high quality of these very special effects. It's truly amazing that all of these actors worked together in 1 historic & classic film that was so significant to their generation~ Review ID: 10000000008437413 Was this review helpful?
