Tongue and cheek adventure/Viking movie with a young Sidney Poitier as a young Moorish ruler. Acting was good but the levitee helpes alot.

"THe longShips' is a very entertaining film that's been a favorite of mine since I was akid & the dvd transfer really does it justice.... It is very well filmed by director/cinematographer JackCardiff, who specialized in action films, & it boasts a very appealing cast.... Richard Widmark is always a pleasure towatch & Sydney Poitier, long friends with his 'Long Ships' costar, delivers a strong perforance.... The surrounding cast are all effective & the film's scoreis rousing! I've long thought this one should be remade, witha more modern approach & little worry of of censorship.... The action, gore & randiness might all be embraced to a wider degree & there is plenty of room for good performers to shine---as they already have in this robust original!

The reason that I purchased the dvd it was a movie that i had seem a long time ago. The movie was very good . The actors in the were some of the ones that I enjoy se them act.I had been looking for some old movies that I don't have . When I went one Ebay and type in the movie title that I was looking for I found this one.

Great great old epic with Sidney PoitierI was stunned when I first saw this movie late at night a few year ago. I thought I had seen every Sidney Poitier movie. He plays a moor with super straight hair, which is pretty funny. The battle scenes, dialogue between Pointier and Widmark, and scale of the movie is fabulous. I was so surprised to see it on DVD, I had to have it.

Approximately 43 years ago (I must have been around 7 years old), I went to the drive-in movies and saw this movie for the first time with my mom and dad. Since then, this movie has been my all-tme favorite. This epic movie is a smart mixture of romance, adventure, and comedy. The scenery is fantastic, and the acting is great. I loved Richard Widmark as the viking story teller whose story about a legendary golden bell happens to be true. I have always loved movies about vikings and gladiators and this movie has a compbination of both. My favorite part of the movie is the soundtrack. Never before has a soundtrack fit a movie so perfectly. I decided to buy this movie because it is my favorite. I am so fortunate that in this modern world of technology, we can acquire all classics to watch over and over again.
