Long Black Train by Josh (Country) Turner (CD, Oct-2003, MCA Nashville)

Country enthusiasts will enjoy the sounds that come from the deep bass vocals of Josh Turner. Known for his hit "Long Black Train," it is no wonder that this album turned Platinum in November 2004. It still remains in the Top 100 Billboard Chart for Country Album for over 70 times.

The album opens up with the roaring Long Black Train, giving the listener a ride of tradition sounds while deplicting that Train as a metaphor for temptation. The train slows down as the notes in guitar and vocals slow down at the end. With a strong message to not go with the Devil's ways, this is a true song that young and old can sing along to.

One of the strong love songs on the album is "In My Dreams." You can just imagine living in the country, giving your husband a glass of water for a kiss as he is working hard in the garden. The song portrays true emotions that only one in love could ever feel.

"What It Aint" met some success, reaching in the Top 40 on the radio. A different uplifting beat approach over the woes of falling in and out of love.

"I Had One One Time" truly shows Turner's vocal talents, whether you listen to it on the album or live in concert. Showing the heartache and coming from the prospective of another character, someone that use to have it all, from materialistic things to love, this song makes you really think about what is important in your life.

"Jacksonville" highlights a character falling in love while in Jacksonville and wanting to stay a few more days. You can feel the breeze of the ocean with the melodic sounds in the song and feel like you are in a swing when you hear Turner say "rock and roll you're holding me, rocking in your arms."

"Backwoods Boy" is a true autobiographical song about Josh that many country folks could relate to. Hearing Josh sing with his deep vocals, you know that he comes from deep in the hills of South Carolina.

"Unburn All Our Bridges" is one of the tracks that you would listen to if you have relationship problems. Not one of the stronger tracks, but is still a good one.

Turner shows his musical influences by singing "You Don't Mess Around with Jim". Country music traditional is shown through this upbeat song that you know that Turner had fun recording this track.

"She'll Go On You" is definitely one of those songs that you realize that a woman can grow on a man's heart. Never let them go indeed.

Jennifer Lopez's Movie "Unfinished Life" suppose to have had the "Good Woman Bad". That is, until the movie was scrapped to being put into the public's eyes. Good upbeat song that has a hint of John Anderson or Mel McDaniel in the background. Turner showcases how the character attracted a bad woman, but he wants a good woman that follows the good ways like himself. Looks like in real life, Turner has found his good woman.

"The Difference Between a Woman and a Man" shows that Turner can put pure emotion into a song, especially when he has experienced true love.

Overall, "Long Black Train" proves Turner's vocal talents outweigh any newcomer in the country music world. He has the staying power to remain in country music for a lifetime, rather than some new artists, like Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, and others. Country music was raised on its true country roots, and Turner proves that he is pure country. This album is well worth getting and well worth every penny.

I watched the show with Randy Travis and he had Josh with him and I saw what a blessing this guy is. I also watched a show the other day of the top 20 country faith songs and Josh made that list with the "Long Black Train". This guy has a voice that would make anyone tremble and his words just hit to your heart. It's so awesome to see someone his age, strong in his faith and singing like an angel sent here to earth to inspire others!!! God bless you Josh.

Josh Turner has a fantastic baritone country voice. Of the three songs he authored on this CD, ‘Long Black Train’ is his most creative creation, however ‘Jacksonville’ and ‘Backwoods Boy’ are both exceptional efforts too, and should have been smash hit singles. These three cuts I have enjoyed cyclically and IMHO made the CD worth purchasing.
Unfortunately, none of the rest of the selections is outstanding. Of the remainder, ‘Unburn All Our Bridges’ is the next closest to being A quality as long as one excludes the grammar.
If you haven’t already tired of Jim Croce’s venerable single, ‘You Don’t Mess Around With Jim’, Josh’s rendition isn’t bad. I personally never cared for the original so have no interest in this rerun.
This disc mirrors his second attempt. In both cases, 3 of 11 songs are exceptional with the remainder being listenable fillers. If I had to opt for just one of Josh’s first two CD’s I would pick this one by a narrow margin.

I like this one song which is the first one on the CD. I don't like much the other songs, I just don't like country music that much. I like the first song, The Long Black Train, because it has a wonderful message and words to the music.

While watching a CMT program I saw this guy with a deep voice singing Randy Travis hits and Randy singing Josh's songs. That good old country boy with his beautiful voice (and not too hard to look at either) was great! I had to wait until the commercials to find out what his name was. I hit ebay as fast as I could and looked him up. Just my luck I got "Long Black Train" on ebay. Then I got "Your Man" & now have three favorite performers, and just their first names are all people need to know who I am talking about - Alan - Randy - Josh!!

Great album!! This is a replacement for the first one I bought before the Witch Fire burned everything we owned. I am really happy to have this copy.

This CD was purchased for a family member who is a country music fan. It made the perfect gift at an affordable price.

Was a gift for someone else. The condition was very nice, there were no scratches and the casing was in great condition also. It was mailed to me very quickly. My mother heard this song on a voice mail and so I decided to buy it for her.

I bought it do to hearing his music and had to have a copy for myself.Dislikes, I don't think so, I like this very well otherwise I would not have bought it.

I love Josh Turner.  I didn't have this CD and when I saw it on ebay, I just had to have it.  I love the whole thing.  There is nothing that I dislike about it.

This is his first real cd and while it is fantastic not as good as the other two cds, Everythings Fine and my personal favorite favorite Your Man.

Josh Turners deep voice sends chills down my spine. I LOVE his rendition of Long Black Train, which is why I bought this CD in the first place. But every track on this CD turned out wonderful. Two thumbs up!

I love the song, Long Black Train, and I think that Josh Turner is a wonderful singer/songwriter and is doing a great job of keeping Country music country...he has the "Allen Jackson" style that alot of the younger singers no longer have but try and call themselves "country".

My eighty-six year old mother requested The Long Black Train by Josh Turner as one of her Christmas presents. She is just thrilled with it! It was shipped and received promptly and in excellent condition.

I originally fell in love with "Long Black Train" when I heard it on the radio. I went out and bought the cd and then was totally melting when I heard the rest of his songs. I think my favorite now is track number 5, "Jacksonville." I love his deep rich voice and his heartfelt family-like lyrics. This album is sure worth buying and you will enjoy it play after play.
