) Great western series and is a good addition to the other dvd of the same series, however the production value isn't anywhere near the caliber of the original Lonesome Dove mini-series with Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall.

The show was more of a soap opera than a real western. My husband got this for his Christmas present. He stated, "The movies were a great deal better."
Recommendation is if you like the original movies and want more, re-read the book. But if you want entertainment these are not the worst shows out there-- But then it's hard to match the original movies or actors. I myself did not hate them but found them good on a snowy evening, when it looked like CSI and sportsts were the other options. On the other hand the -- The company was prompt with delivery and we had this present under the tree ith time to spare.. Thanks to the diligence of this company for making Christmas much easier for Mrs. Claus in this house.

I am a complete fan of the Lonesome Dove Series, it is one of the most realistic westerns that I have ever seen. This series is about "Newt", after leaving his father Captain Call. Once, he acknowledges him, that is. This one captured me from the beginning, but the ending floored me! I cried for days. Stupid me, I feel as if I really know these characters! This is a can't miss series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
