Florida emo-pop act Red Jumpsuit Apparatus may have gotten their name on a whim but they are more interested in focusing on their actual music than the mystique behind it. That attention to craft comes through on their third album, LONELY ROAD. Though some of the heat has cooled down from their smash single "Face Down," they keep up the momentum with a well-recorded radio friendly effort. As much slick pop as it is punk-derived, LONELY ROAD plants singable choruses and hummable melodies in every song. "Step Right Up" could fit in nicely in an '80s movie, "Pen & Paper" and "Represent" swirl with bittersweet emotion, and power ballad "Believe" is a junior high dance hit in another universe. Fans looking for something that hits like "Face Down" might be disappointed, but the glittering songcraft makes up for the softer edges.
Editorial Reviews 3 stars out of 5 -- The glossy, energetic guitar pop of tracks like 'Senioritis' and 'Step Right Up' find their counterpoints in towering power ballads 'Believe' and 'Represent'... Alternative Press
[With] hooky, fuzz-encrusted tunes....This bittersweet pill is never difficult to swallow. Billboard
