"Falling Down" is the phrase that comes to mind!

This book is the next in line after The Big Bad Wolf, and picks up with Alex Cross where he left off. I wanted to read this sequel because I felt the BBW ended so poorly, with much unsaid and unaccounted for. Mr. Patterson's endings fall down on the job in this manner.
I haven't read a lot of James Patterson, but his writing style is easy to read with a surprise or two here and there. I have ordered the rest of the books in this Alex Cross series and will plug through them.
There is nothing deep to be found in the writings, so for anyone looking for something that can be picked up and put down randomly, this is a good book for that. The chapters are all very short, usually two to four pages. The pace is steady and inviting but not with an edge-of-your-seat, can't-put-it-down frenzy.
I do like that descriptions of violence give a general idea of actions without graphic details. That could also be a a side effect of rather emotionless relationships in general throughout the book, but it's welcome in this respect.
