Album Notes
Talk Talk includes: Mark Hollis (vocals).
Recorded live at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, England in 1986.
When Talk Talk recorded this show at the Hammersmith Odeon in London during the band's 1986 tour to promote COLOUR OF SPRING, few in the rapturous audience could have predicted that it would be one of the band's last live shows.
The band was already drifting away from its pop roots, and Mark Hollis, in spectacularly fine voice, leads his augmented band through eight tracks. The tracks are culled principally from COLOUR OF SPRING and its immediate predecessor, IT'S MY LIFE. Though two of Talk Talk's biggest hits are here, "Life Is What You Make It" and "It's My Life," it is the lesser-known songs that shine though, including a beautifully downbeat "Tomorrow Started" and "Living in Another World," which features a blistering cameo from Nine Below Zero's harmonica player, Mark Feltham. After this tour Talk Talk retired to the studio for two years to re-emerge in 1988 with the critically lauded but commercially disastrous ambient jazz masterpiece SPIRIT OF EDEN. Capturing their live swan song, LONDON 1986 is a fitting testament to the band's first phase.
