Album Notes
The High Llamas include: Sean O'Hagan.
For this seven-track remix album, the High Llamas ignore the usual constraints of the form, bypassing mere dancefloor utility in favor of genuinely interesting sonic reinventions. The remixers-Mouse On Mars, Cornelius, Schneider TM, Jim O'Rourke, Kid Loco, Stock Hausen and Walkman, and highest Llama Sean O'Hagan-mostly keep only the barest outlines of the original tracks, refashioning each in their own styles.
Mouse On Mars' wibbly-wobbly analogue synthesizers, Cornelius' playful Brian Wilson homages, Kid Loco's slinky groove, and O'Rourke's soundscapes are probably the most successful, but there's little tedium on this 46-minute album. High Lamas fans who only enjoy the band's Beach Boys influences on GIDEON GAYE and HAWAII will be disappointed and are advised to stay away. But if those who share O'Hagan's fascination with sound-for-sound's-sake, you will certainly find much to love here.
