Original concept

Really enjoyed this book, it's the second in the Sookie Stackhouse series. I got into reading this as I saw True Blood which is the TV series based on these books. I really like the way it stays true to the standard vampire stuff like being allergic to sunlight and the like, but has its own little twists. For instance, the way the lead character, Sookie is human but has her own power.
In a way it is a little like Twilight in that she can hear people's thoughts, but not the thoughts of "Vampire Bill" her now boyfriend (who she meets in the first book). However, this is a lot more grown-up than Twilight, for one thing it's raunchier!
The characters are great, especially the main character, Sookie. The best part for me is the fact that the way they react is believable. When you are reading the books it is easy to believe that these things could happen at some point in the future. That the creatures we believe to be myth - vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters - could exist and could feasibly "come out of the closet" when the moment is right.
If you like romantic novels with bite then definitely read this series.
