This is the second book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, upon which the HBO show True Blood is loosley based. I love the show and the books are even better. I love the Dallas book becuase we get to know Eric so much better. It is a great read, the only problem is you will probably finish the book before you get a chance to buy the next one becuase you won't be able to put it down.

Harris continues to delight with the (mis)adventures of quirky Sookie Stackhouse. This second volume reveals greater character info and insight, as well as a deeper glimpse into the supernatural world of the series. I'm hooked!

Charlaine harris DEAD series Dallas vampire mystery
Review created: 01/20/09(updated 05/05/09)
by:

Let me start by saying that I purchased this book and had it finished in 2 days. I just couldn't put it down. This is the second book in the DEAD series where the action continues for Sookie Stackhouse and her vampire BILL. Since Sookie has been dating Bill, it seems everytime she turns around she is getting herself in trouble. This book starts out with a bang as Sookie discovers a coworker has been murdered. The story keeps going strong as Sookie and Bill travel to Dallas to help out fellow vampires to solve their own mystery.
Not stop action with a love story- just loved this. I can't wait to read the next one.

Make sure and check out my guide for the reading order of this series.

  Original concept
Review created: 12/13/08

Really enjoyed this book, it's the second in the Sookie Stackhouse series. I got into reading this as I saw True Blood which is the TV series based on these books. I really like the way it stays true to the standard vampire stuff like being allergic to sunlight and the like, but has its own little twists. For instance, the way the lead character, Sookie is human but has her own power.

In a way it is a little like Twilight in that she can hear people's thoughts, but not the thoughts of "Vampire Bill" her now boyfriend (who she meets in the first book). However, this is a lot more grown-up than Twilight, for one thing it's raunchier!

The characters are great, especially the main character, Sookie. The best part for me is the fact that the way they react is believable. When you are reading the books it is easy to believe that these things could happen at some point in the future. That the creatures we believe to be myth - vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters - could exist and could feasibly "come out of the closet" when the moment is right.

If you like romantic novels with bite then definitely read this series.

Alan Ball definitely improves these stories in the True Blood series, but I love the creativity of the novels and the funny why they interface with society in Louisianna.

Southern Vampires.. don't we all know people Described?
Review created: 07/27/08

I have been reading the series and can't seem to stop! Being Southern I am sure I have met every one of the Characters at least once. The action is a blast. The humor has me laughing out loud enough that my husband ask's " What's so funny?" With a main character named Sookie Stackhouse, Charlaine Harris can't go wrong. For a small town waitress she sure can find Big town trouble!

Funny & dark at the same time
Review created: 01/20/08

If you enjoy a good vampire story mixed with dark humor and a love story read Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse stories. Quick read, hard to put down. Each story in this series develops the characters a little bit more and you learn more about them personally and what significance they play or might play in relation to Sookie. Sookie is fun, and part of her charm is that she is an endearing accident-prone airhead who you can't help but like and want to hear more about. The blood and gore is definately there, but the love (hate) triangle between Sookie and Bill the main vampire character and Sam, Sookie's boss who is also a shapeshifter is hard to resist. New characters are also introduced in this 2nd book of the series who you can't help but feel that they will be much more important in future stories, such as Eric the ancient vampire who definately is showing a lot of interest in Sookie. Enjoy!
