Album Notes Louis Armstrong & His All-Stars: Louis Armstrong (vocals, trumpet); Jack Teagarden (vocals, trombone); Velma Middleton (vocals); Barney Bigard (clarinet); Earl Hines (piano); Arvell Shaw (bass guitar); Cozy Cole (drums). Audio Remasterer: Peter Pfister. Though such labels are often overblown, in this case the appellation "All-Stars" is well earned. Accompanying the jazz legend Louis Armstrong are several musical giants in their own right, notably the pianist Earl Hines, the trombonist Jack Teagarden, and the clarinetist Barney Bigard. The set features all the Armstrong classics one could wish for, including a lovely combined Armstrong-Teagarden vocal on "Do You Know What it Means (To Miss New Orleans)," some electrifying Barney Bigard clarinet work on a full-throttle "High Society," and a delicate version of "Body and Soul" that comes straight from the heart of the Crescent City.
