A followup to 1981's well-received LIVE IN JAPAN, LIVE IN JAPAN 2003 was recorded at Tokyo's Blue Note Club in October 2003 and features the lineup of saxophonist Wilton Felder, pianist Joe Sample, guitarists Roland Bautista and Barry Finnerty, bassist Alphonso Johnson, percussionist Rafael Cruz, and drummer Stix Hooper. Highlights include Sample's lyrical showcase, "Ballad for Joe," and the slinky "Shotgun House Groove."
