Album Notes Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: Bruce Springsteen (vocals, guitar); Patti Scialfa (guitar, background vocals); Steven Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren (guitar); Clarence Clemons (saxophone, percussion); Roy Bittan, Danny Federici (keyboards); Garry Tallent (bass); Max Weinberg (drums). Producers: Bruce Springsteen, Chuck Plotkin. Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York, New York on June 29, 2000 and July 1, 2000. Includes liner notes by Jon Pareles. Recorded during Bruce Springsteen's 10-date Madison Square Garden stint in early summer 2000, this masterful two-CD set offers a live souvenir of the Boss's exhilarating reunion with the E Street Band. Despite a decade-long touring layoff, the band hits the ground running right from the opening chords of the TRACKS gem "My Love Will Not Let You Down." The rest of the set list is an exciting ride through Springsteen's extensive canon, dating back to his 1973 debut, GREETINGS FROM ASBURY PARK, NJ. The '70s-era Springsteen songs include goosebump-inducing versions of such anthems as "Badlands," "Born to Run," and "Jungleland." But as adept as this Jersey bard is in whipping up frenzied passion with such hard-hitting numbers, he's equally as transfixing on quieter material, including the gorgeous "Mansion on the Hill" and a completely revamped version of "The River." Proving he still has a gift for powerful statements, Springsteen's newest numbers--"American Skin (41 Shots)" and "Land of Hope and Dreams"--are brilliant social commentaries on the horrors of racial profiling in the former and the promise of a welcoming future free from prejudice in the latter. Reviews Review created: 06/23/08 by: If you like/love Bruce, you gotta have this one! a couple of the songs I did not know but am now informed! Review ID: 10000000007680241 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 10/30/03 by: fuche_bu -- a member of Epinions Pros: live Bruce Cons: only two discs Most fans of live rock and roll will tell you that one of the best experiences you can have is a live concert from Bruce Springsteen Review ID: 10000000000502309 Review created: 04/08/01 by: wolfman309 -- a member of Epinions Pros: A master live performance Cons: It is the music with meaning, not the hits. First off, this is not part of the roadiem write off. Mike was a dear friend and I owe him this one. Second, This is a review of the new "Live In New York" album that Epinions does not have listed yet. I will move it as soon as they get it listed. It may seem odd that I picked this album up when I did. I think it was odd. As much as I love the music of Bruce Springsteen, music was not on my mind this past week. The day after I found out my good friend Roadiem (Mike Lambert) had died, I found myself at a K-Mart store where I had to pick up something. As I walked past the music section, this... Cons: A few pedestrian moments. Recording artists can work better in various recording environments. Some artists work well in the recording studio, since they create complex music that is hard to perform well on stage. Some artists sound better on stage and some create complex music that sounds great on a CD, yet even better on stage. One artist that falls into the last category is Bruce Springsteen. Ever since he first signed a record deal in the early 1970s, Springsteen has gained a reputation as one of the best live performers in the world of rock and roll. So it seems natural that a live album would be one of the... That does not bother me, considering that Springsteen has over thirty years worth of music in his repertoire and that's an impressive arsenal by any standard. Having enjoyed Bruce Springsteen's "Greatest Hits" (reviewed at: http://www.epinions.com/conten Review ID: 10000000003442507 Review created: 04/04/07 by: dheaton76 -- a member of Epinions Pros: Excellent sound quality, diverse set list, energetic performance Cons: Shortened, edited version of full concert Supported by the E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen has released numerous classic albums, but the highlights were always the unforgettable three-hour live performances. Playing together until the mid '80s, they delivered countless worthy shows, but none had been officially released. A box set compiling various live songs did appear, but it severely cut some tunes and pulled from a large group of shows. Fans were clamoring for an E Street Band reunion and a full concert release, and their hopes were realized during the 1999-2000 world tour. Near the end of the two-year odyssey, HBO recorded...
