Album Notes Personnel: Bruce Springsteen; Patti Scialfa (vocals, acoustic guitar); Cindy Mizelle, Curtis King, Lisa Lowell (vocals); Frank Bruno, Marc Anthony Thompson (acoustic guitar); Marty Rifkin (steel guitar); Gregory Liszt (banjo); Sam Bardfeld, Soozie Tyrell (violin); Charlie Giordano (accordion); Ed Manion (saxophone); Clark Gayton (trombone); Jeremy Chatzky (bass guitar); Larry Eagle (drums). Ireland has a long and proud folk tradition, so it makes perfect sense that the concert chosen to document Bruce Springsteen's 2006 tour in support of WE SHALL OVERCOME: THE SEEGER SESSIONS would be in the country's capital city. The 22-track set, LIVE IN DUBLIN, captures both the political passion and the overwhelming joy of this tour. Touring with an expanded band of friends and fellow New Jersey musicians instead of the E Street Band, Springsteen goes for a hybrid electric-acoustic sound rather than the full-on rock bombast he's better known for. Although solo takes of Springsteen originals like a haunted "Atlantic City" are highlights, the focus here is both on the large, rollicking band and on the Seeger tunes and traditional folk favorites given new life. LIVE IN DUBLIN is available in both two-disc and three-disc formats, the latter adding a live DVD of the entire concert. | Find errors in the product description? Reviews Review created: 03/21/08 by: Although it is not typical Bruce Springsteen, it is just as good as anything he has ever done. Not only has he reworked old folk songs of which most of them I've never heard, he spiced some of his own songs also. If you like The Boss and want to hear something different, get it! Report this review Loved it enough to buy in twice, one copy for the car the other while I'm on the computer (yes I know I could/should have downloaded). Husband and I heard it for first time on channel GBH for a lot more money than I paid in Half.com. Review ID: 10000000005977128 Was this review helpful? Think it is great he branches off into different directions and doesn't just play the same kind of music that he knows people want. He plays what he wants to play. Enjoyed the fact Bruce seemed to sincerely be having fun on the cd. Review ID: 10000000004381712 Was this review helpful? My son enjoyed the music very much and would definitely recommend it to all Springsteen fans! Review ID: 10000000004122762 Was this review helpful? The songs are largely taken from "The Seeger Sessions", Springsteen's reworking of folk classics, giving them incredible vitality. Sringsteen himself talked of this music equalling or surpassing the energy of his early work with the E Street Band! (It was my favourite album for ten years or more). The concert adds a few of Springsteen's own songs and a few old favourites: a suprisingly reflective "When The Saints Go Marching In" and a thrilling "This Little Light Of Mine", for instance. Truly great songs, first class musicianship and a lovely spirit at the concert which comes right out of your CD player at you. What more could you want from a concert CD? Very highly recommended.
