Album Notes Pearl Jam: Eddie Vedder (vocals). Although Pearl Jam has released a slew of live discs from its 2000-2003 phase, this concert stands out, since it serves as a benefit for YouthCare, a non-profit organization that helps homeless and at-risk youth in the band's hometown of Seattle, Washington. Always a man on a mission, Eddie Vedder leads the group through mostly acoustic renditions of many fine PJ songs, including the swaying "Low Light," the gentle "Off He Goes," and the fierce "Lukin." A group that loves to feature improvisations and cover tunes in its performances, Pearl Jam does not disappoint here, with the highlight proving to be "25 Minutes to Go," a raucous, witty, country-tinged number made famous by in the 1960s by Johnny Cash. About a month ago I was checking out the Pearl Jam website like a do on a weekly basis and my diligence was finally rewarded. What did I read, but the band was going to finally release their legendary 1992 MTV Unplugged performance. Well, as quickly as my excitement reached an unhealthy level, it proceeded to fall just as far. I accidentally misread the website and while the Unplugged performance was referenced, it would not be the show to be released. I guess I'll start this review of the latest Pearl Jam live release by saying that if you read the announcement of the project, the group talked about their MTV Unplugged performance from 1992, a performance that remains one of the band's most popular. But any comparisons between that show, which featured in this writer's opinion, the greatest single song in the history of that series (Porch, with lead singer Eddie Vedder dancing on his stool and writing "pro-choice" down his arm in thick black marker) and this one, recorded in October of last year at Benaroya Hall in Seattle during a short...

So many Pearl Jam shows to choose from. How does one decide which to buy? Well, Pearl Jam has just made things slightly easier. If you happen to be in the mood for a more laid back concert, you're in luck. In 2003, they recorded an all-acoustic show, now available on two discs. Live At Benaroya Hall shows the band slowing the pace for nearly an entire album, creating a concert that is an obvious standout in their massive collection. The show begins with a bluesy Of The Girl rendition. It's by no means a popular Pearl Jam tune, but it works as a great opener, not just sonically but also...

Disclaimer: I give the sound quality and musicianship FIVE stars on this album. The set list and the way some of the non-pj songs seem disconnected from the overall feel of the album is what brings it to an overall of three stars, though still recommended. As an avid Pearl Jam fan who's listened to nearly everything they've ever published in the recorded music realm, I again couldn't wait to get my hands on this Live acoustical album...sometimes simply known in musical circles as "unplugged".
