The Little Rascals - The Complete Collection (DVD, 2008, 8-Disc Set)

Pros: Excellent short films which are timeless in how they portray the innocence and joy of childhood. The packaging is wonderful, although individual slim cases for each disk would have been better. The disks are replicated, manufactured in a disk pressing plant, not dvd-r disks bound to degrade and fail in a short amount of time. Menus are easy to access, giving the ability to "play all" or choose single films for play. Bonus interviews and commentary are nice, but missing the Leonard Maltin intros found on the Cabin Fever set. Leonard is King, the fan's fan. In spite of issues I list below, it is nice to have this many Our Gang shorts within arm's reach.

Cons: Once more, "restored and remastered" is a phrase to be taken with a pound of salt. Today it is little more than a sales gimmick.

"Complete" should have been modified to say, "Complete Talkies," or something to indicate that 85 of the 88 silent shorts are not included.

No subtitles/closed captioning. This have been helpful on the earlier shows, where the sound quality is not the greatest and dialogue is muddled.

Technically, the quality does not make this issue the set to end all sets. Too many shorts are low-quality Blackhawk film dubs. Who has the masters and why weren't they used? Ghosting is noticeable to these eyes at times, with occasional artifacting, although I've seen worse offenders. I viewed these dvds on an HD television, so your mileage may vary regarding the defects. The transfers would have benefited from a higher bit-rate capture, in my opinion. Dialogue and sound effects are noticeably missing in spots, i.e. "Boxing Gloves." Picture quality is comparable to the Cabin Fever release (an entirely worthy set for the occasional nostalgia viewer, or as a conduit for new fans). Completist fans should not bypass the "best of" colorized collections from another company --- their restoration efforts might surprise you.

I am mostly satisfied with this collection, however, I regret that RHI's effort lacked the superior quality that was hoped for. Full restoration on 80 shorts would have been quite the achievement. Perhaps no studio is equal to that task. It may be quite awhile before we are privileged with a do-over.

This is a gift for someone who grew up during the time period that The Little
Rascals was often viewed on the television, I believe, on Saturday afternoon.
Having their short stories available to watch at will is wonderful and having
it on DVD yet--such a great convenience! I believe that the recipient will
enjoy owning, watching and sharing with family and friends the viewing experi-

I missed out on the Cabin Fever 21 vol video set of Little Rascals so I just had to check out this set. The dvd set was delivered promptly and in good shape. The quality of the video and audio is excellent, given the age of the movies. The Cabin Fever liner notes that I've seen are better than the dvd set, but overall this is a very good deal.

I was satisfied with the quality and correct details that were used to describe this product. The shipping was quick and very reliable source.

It is Great that I can bring back a little of my childhood, by getting up on a saturday morning and popping in 1 of the DVD's, while eating breakfast with my wife. We both enjoy them alot.

the DVd was sent fairly quickly. I bought it for my husband since he loves the little rascels so much. He was very excited to see for our anniversary.

I won an 8-DVD Collection of The Little Rascals on December 18, 2008. I was the highest bidder out of 7 bids. I won this item for $56.07 + $6.03, which came to grand total of $63.10 charged to my credit card. As of January 11, 2009, I have NOT received this item. I attempted to contact the seller on January 9, 2009 explaining this situation, and I have yet to receive an answer. To add insult to injury, I see that E-Bay themselves acknowledge that this seller is NO LONGER a registered E-Bay seller. My next step will be to call my credit card company to put this item in "dispute" status. I am sorry it has come to this, and I still hope for a positive outcome to this experience.
