Stunning. A must-buy for any musical theatre fan.

I have no idea what that user below is talking about.
This is one of the greatest musicals ever written, hands down. Stephen Sondheim's radiant score is one of the finest ever written in musical theatre. The overture is perfectly gorgeous, along with the various Night Waltzes. SEND IN THE CLOWNS is one of the most beautiful solos ever written in musical theatre. Other memorable songs include THE MILLER'S SON, REMEMBER, YOU MUST MEET MY WIFE, A WEEKEND IN THE COUNTRY, the aformentioned OVERTURE and NIGHT WALTZES I & II.
The lyrics are absolutely amazing. Stephen Sondheim is definitely one of the great geniuses of the 20th Century-----as well as being able to write brilliant music, he is equally gifted as a lyricist if not more.......his lyrics are witty and poignant:
"A weekend in the country, the bees in their hives
The shallow worldly figures, the frivolous lives
The devil's companions know not whom they serve
It might be instructive to observe...."
A Little Night Music is one of the most quotable shows ever.
The musical carries out mostly like an operetta. There will be no sudden breaking into enormous song and dance numbers for no reason......the singing is very vernacular and conversational, but still has a pollished, musical "singy" quality to it.
To a beginner just getting into musical theatre, the music may seem too complex to enjoy and isn't "catchy" enough, but give it a few listens and it'll definitely grow on you. If you are a true musical theatre fan, I give you my word that you will absolutely fall in love with this musical in a year or so.
Do I recommend it? YES!!!! This underrated musical goldmine is a must-buy for any Stephen Sondheim fan or anyone who is serious about the theatre.
