Disney wasted their talent with this one!

I call myself "positve feedback" but I'm just going to have to step out of bounds with this one. I've had to deal with a lot of dumb girls in college, and trust me, Ariel is as bad as they come, and for some reason most girls want to be her. Yes, the Disney company did a great job with the music and animation, but they wasted their talent. The protagonist is a bozo. I think if they thawed out old Walt today he'd be very disappointed in this character. Parents, ask yourself, "is this how we want our daughters to turn out?"
We'll set aside the psychological effects that are produced on girls when bodies, such as Ariel's, are portrayed immodestly in our media and create an unrealistic norm. Let's just discuss Ariel's character. All the marketing promos are describing Ariel as "headstrong" . . . ha! She's downright disobedient and immature. People, don't let the marketing and even the popularity of this movie suck you in. Ariel was irresponsible. She was so involved with herself that she missed the concert. And she "loved" Eric so much that she just had to make a deal with the evil sea witch. What Ariel did was really only a step away from prostitution. Should our daughters believe that its OK to do whatever it takes to get what they want now? I thought patience was a virtue. Even in the end, after she had disobeyed her father and caused so much trouble, he still gave her what she wanted. (I thought gods were wise, the god of the sea must not be). What does that tell us? That we can cry and moan all we want until we get what want. Last I checked you can only do that when you're buying something. And the worst part of all, she actually didn't even speak to Eric until the very end when they were battling the sea witch. That's not real love.
If you want a good movie, pick Beauty and the Beast. Oh man! Or shall I say WO-MAN! Now there is a woman who's character can affect a positive change in this world. Belle recognized that Gaston just wasn't dating material (Ariel was more like the three idiot blondes that Gaston only used for cuddle buddies). Belle was willing to sacrifice herself to save her father's life, a true act of love that began the Beast's conversion (you can see it in his face). Belle was also intelligent; she loved to read. So lets see it all you ladies that are lookin' for love. Are you going to be like the idiot Ariel or the Beautiful Belle?
I think Fiona (Shrek 2) had it just right, lets throw Ariel back in the sea.
PS. I'm sure many who are reading are saying that this is "only a movie", but if that were true, then why can every girl sing Ariel's song WORD for WORD. Can you honestly argue that something that is so embedded in our minds doesn't affect us?
