Little House in the Big Woods

What I like about this book, as well as the whole series, is it chronicles a very simple yet dangerous time in our history. I believe these books are written exactly how Laura Ingalls Wilder viewed her surroundings and lifestyle without flair and exaggeration. We see a very important part of history, the migration of settlers, from the eyes of an innocent child. These books are packed with humor, hardship and a way of life that is foreign to us in this day and age. They are extremely interesting in that they describe, in detail, how meals are prepared, how homes were built (without nails) and how each adversity was met with a determination to stay and prosper. I bought this book to complete the whole Laura Ingalls Wilder collection. I want to read these to my son, when he is old enough to understand, a different way of life that brought both good and bad to this great country. Plus, I want him to know that there WERE people that walked five miles in the snow to get to school :-)
