Little Britches Makes You Want To Move Right In
Review created: 04/14/06

Are you looking for wonderful family oriented books to read aloud with your children? The whole series by Ralph Moody, starting with Little Britches and culminating with Horse Of A Different Color, is as good as it gets.
This book, Little Britches, centers on the time period when Ralph Moody and his family lived on a small sharecropping farm just outside Denver Colorado in the early 1900's. Ralph makes friends with the sheriff, breaks nine toes, learns to be a trick rider at the county fair along with his cowboy friend Hi, experiences the pain of losing someone most dear to him, and is taught life lessons by his father and mother that stick with him (and us) from then on.
The characters are among the best defined in modern literature, there is oodles of wisdom and wit, wonderful dialogue, and most especially a portrayal of the value of family relationships that is more than just heartwarming... it makes you want to move right in!
If you buy just one book to read to your kids, make it this one.

This book is fun for the whole family. It's like a Little House on the Prairie for boys. The whole series is good. The Home Ranch was our favorite.

Awesome book, great to read aloud to kids
Review created: 01/02/08

What a simple life-lesson book. It's packed with thought-provoking situations, resolutions, emotions. Though it was written decades ago, I was only introduced to it when I had my own children. Looking for books to read aloud to them, this is definitely in the top 20.

Title is perfect for this story

I loved reading this story. It is an all American story based upon the author's life as a young boy. I fell in love with the style of writing that I decided to read all of his stories in order. The only thing that I didn't care for was that sometimes the story was a little too detailed and I was ready to move on. This only occurred a couple of times. I bought this book because a friend gave me one of Ralph Moody's other books and I became interested in reading his books in order. I would highly recommend this book to be read alone, as a family, or by any young reader. Boys may find this great reading especially if you enjoy the west and horses.

I've read it with my 9 year old son. It's a great book to read together to encourage him (as he doesn't love to read), but he does love to hear a good story (which Little Britches is!).

  Great Gift.

I bought this for my Husband for his Birthday. He read this book as a child and fell in love with it. I have yet to read it but I do intend to. This book would make a great gift for your Husband or Father. Espically for the guy that loves a good prarie or western type book.
